Celebrating Norma McGovern MBE – King's Birthday Honours 2026
Everyone at Dundee Women's Aid is delighted to congratulate our Vice Chair and Treasurer, Norma McGovern MBE, on being recognised in the King's Birthday Honours 2026 for her outstanding services to charity. It is a richly deserved honour that reflects decades of unwavering commitment to public service and to improving the lives of others.
Norma is widely respected across Dundee for her distinguished career in the NHS, her lifelong humanitarian work, and her dedication to the voluntary sector. Recognised as Dundee's Citizen of the Year in 2019, she has consistently demonstrated compassion, integrity and exceptional leadership in every role she has undertaken.
At Dundee Women's Aid, Norma has been instrumental in guiding the organisation through periods of change and growth. As Vice Chair and Treasurer, she brings not only strategic leadership and sound governance, but also the values that define our organisation: dignity, respect, equality and an unwavering commitment to survivors of domestic abuse.
Her passion is driven by a simple belief that everyone should be able to live free from fear and abuse. While this national honour recognises Norma's remarkable contribution, it also shines a light on a reality that cannot be ignored.
Dundee continues to experience some of the highest rates of domestic abuse in Scotland. Behind every statistic is a woman, a child and a family whose lives have been profoundly affected. Domestic abuse remains one of the most urgent public health and human rights issues of our time, and the need for organisations such like Dundee Women’s Aid who offer specialist support has never been greater.
Norma's recognition reminds us that meaningful change is built through the dedication of individuals who refuse to accept that abuse is inevitable. Her leadership inspires us to continue raising awareness, challenging attitudes, advocating for survivors and working towards a future where every woman and child can live safely and experience a healthy happy relationship.
Congratulations, Norma. Your MBE is a tribute not only to your exceptional service but also to the countless lives you have touched along the way. We are immensely proud to work alongside you and grateful for your continued leadership.
Together, we will continue to stand with survivors, amplify their voices and work towards ending domestic abuse.
