This week, between two well-being sessions with clients, we visited our tree. Situated at the corner of that wee slice of paradise known as Baxter Park, it stands in memory of those we have loved and lost.

For several years there has been concern, both at national and local level that escalating funeral costs exacerbate funeral poverty. Over the last 10 years average funeral costs have risen by 122%whilst average income costs have only risen by 34%. Funeral poverty is an increasing hardship in Dundee and for the poorest people funeral costs are up to 40% of their annual expenditure.
Bereaved families naturally want to give their loved one the best possible send-off, however at this point of need are unlikely to shop around or consider less expensive options. This often results in the bereaved purchasing a funeral package that they cannot ultimately afford leading to long term debt and making it hard to grieve properly. Clearly there was a need for an independent body to support and help the bereaved in Dundee. Funeral link is that organisation.
Registered as a Charity in November 2018 as a pilot project, championing consumers in the Dundee area and having already supported several clients, we officially launched the funeral link service on Friday 1st March 2019, offering confidential support and helping the bereaved in Dundee save money on all things funeral including:
