🐽🏡🐽🏡 Lets talk piggy housing 🏡🐽🏡

I kmow we've posted this many times before but just a reminder folks ‼️❤️‍🩹

So the basics - minimum size required is 5x2 panels C&C style pen - Shown in the attached link.

This applies to males & females. Some rescues, forums etc advise smaller is acceptable for female piggies but we maintain the same minimum size for both sexes.

Unfortunatley theres a number of unsuitable cages available on the market. Online, facebook marketplace and pet shops such as Pets at home continue to advertise cages for guinea pigs with limited floor space and steep ramps.

Let me be totally clear here - NOTHING below the pen in the link attatched will be considered suitable for rehoming guinea pigs from us irrespective of what 'the girl in the pet shop' said or 'the description on Amazon' said it was for guinea pigs etc etc etc.

Can everyone please also be aware there are many C&C style pens on the market, places like Amazon have about 25 different styles BUT many of them, the panels are smaller. So although youve ordered 14 panels to make a 5x2 pen, if the panels are smaller than 35.5cm square, the floor space it create will be BELOW the minimum required. Being lower in height it also risks piggies escaping. All round, not suitable.

Ramp/second levels - While these are ok and do provide extra play space the minimum UNINTERUPTED floor space MUST be 5x2.
Ramps must be lined to provide traction. They must be at a gentle gradient and should be wide and have sides where possible.

We'd far rather you send us two pages of questions than waste your time and money buying a rubbish cage unsuitable for guinea pigs.

📍Please note, the page below also lists the 2x3 and 2x4 cageas suitable for 2 pigs. We will not rehome to anything smaller than 5x2.

Our 2x5 C&C modular grid guinea pig cage is ideal for up to 3 guinea pigs and includes all correx, mesh grids, connectors and ties.

We have a bunch of lovely ladies of varying ages looking for their forever homes. Guinea pigs are very social animals and must live in at least pairs but enjoy bigger herds where space allows.

🤍Vera🤍

This is not the update we wanted to share, despite the best efforts of our friends at Fife Exotic Vets Wee Vera sadly passed away yesterday.

We did everything we possibly could for her, but unfortunately the damage to her colon was too severe and it was not compatible with life.

We take comfort in the knowledge, that due to the surgery and the good pain meds the team at FEV had her on, her last few days were comfortable and calm.

Thank you to everyone who donated to her care, final vet bill pending.

Upcoming dates - Friday 28th 11am-6pm

Regular nail clipping is such an important part of continued care for your bunnies and piggies. We understand it can be tricky with black nails or kicky bunnos so we offer a nail clipping service on site.

There will be no need to book an appointment, just simply show up during the clinic hours 🙂

We ask a £5 donation per animal 🐾
We can also do grooming during clinic hours but obviously this takes a little longer so there may be a short wait if we're working with an animal requiring grooming 🙂

Any questions, please just ask ☺️ If you cannot make one of the dates/time above, pop us a message and we can try squeeze you in another day. Please remember ALL small furries should travel in an animal safe carrier - NOT cardboard. NOT open topped. And NOT on a lead ❌

Vera's story and the importance of watching your rabbits eat.
On Saturday, Vera was her usual playful and cuddly self, and today she had to go through surgery. What happened?
As we all know, a rabbit that doesn't want to eat is a veterinary emergency that can go downhill very fast. And that's exactly what happened to our girl; on Sunday morning, it was noted that she didn't throw herself to her salad as she usually does. Since she continued to not improve through the night, we took the decision to bring her to Fife Exotic Vets for specialised care.
Vera had blood work and X-rays that showed she had developed a big blockage in her colon, and since she couldn't shift it by herself, the team had to perform surgery to remove it. She is now recovering from the ordeal under the vet's supervision, but she is not out of the woods yet.
We can't thank the team at Fife Exotic Vets enough for their quick thinking and the excellent care they are providing Vera with. Take this as a reminder to watch your bunnies and check whenever you feel there's something different, because you could be saving their life.

This surgery and hospital stay are going to put a strain on our situation; any donations will be very appreciated.
