💛Volunteers Week 2026💛

Today we hear from one of our trustees Cheryl about the importance of giving back through volunteering.

"Volunteering for Dunbar asn means to me giving back to a local charity who helped me 3 years ago when I first heard about them and started going along to the meet ups and also connecting with them all as they are all supportive and there when you need anything"

💛Volunteers Week 2026 💛

Today we hear from Emma, our chairperson as she reflects on volunteers week.

"I started volunteering when I was 15 with the WRVS, not knowing it would become such a steady thread through my life. Later, I spent ten happy years as a Beaver Leader with the 6th Leith Scouts, watching young people grow in confidence and find their place.

When my family moved to Dunbar, that same pull towards community brought me to Dunbar ASN in 2021. I became one of the founding trustees, but more importantly, I found friendships, connection, a sense of purpose and support for my son.

What I love most is the people, the parents, carers, volunteers, and especially the young people who come to our sessions. Seeing their confidence grow, watching friendships form, and being part of a space where everyone can simply be themselves means more than I can say.

Volunteering has given me so much over the years. This week, I’m just feeling grateful for every moment, every smile, and every person who makes our community what it is."

Our Parent and Carers Support Group is at Dunbar Library this Friday from 9:30am.

Why come along?
You don’t have to do this alone. If you're a parent or carer of a child with additional or complex needs.

Diagnosed or not, early in the journey or years in, this space is for you.

Twice a month, we gather in Dunbar to connect, share, and support one another.

It’s relaxed, friendly, and full of heart.

What you’ll find:
• Real conversations with people who get it
• Practical info and guidance without the jargon
• A chance to breathe, reflect, and build confidence
• A community that celebrates your family’s resilience

Whether you’re navigating school meetings, waiting lists, or just trying to get through the week, come as you are. You’ll be met with warmth, understanding, and a cuppa.

Open to families in Dunbar and the surrounding areas

Volunteers Week 2026 - 1-7 June

This week, we're celebrating all of the wonderful people who volunteer in our community. Without volunteers, many organisations like ours wouldn't exist!

We truly appreciate the dedication of all our volunteers, including those working behind the scenes - Thank you!

Each day this week, we will be sharing our volunteers' stories. First up is Nicola, who has been volunteering with us since 2023.

We’re so excited to share that our new website is now live!

It’s a space that brings together everything we do. Our sessions, our values, our story, and the voices of the families who make this community what it is.

To celebrate, we’ve published a new blog post: “A Heartfelt Thank You (and a Fundraising Celebration!)” – a little update on the kindness, support, and teamwork that keeps our wee charity going.

Have a read, explore the site, and let us know what you think. Information page coming soon.

We hope it feels like your space as much as ours.

Our next Tweens session is happening this Saturday, and we’d love to see your young people there. It’s a relaxed, low‑pressure space with plenty of choice, perfect for P4–S1 children with additional support needs, and no diagnosis is required.

Here’s what’s on offer:
- Gaming and tech
- Lego and creative building
- Crafts and chill‑out activities
- Board games and space to just hang out

These sessions are all about giving our tweens a safe, welcoming place to connect, try things out, and simply be themselves. Parents and carers are required to stay, you’re welcome to grab a cuppa and take a breather while the young people get stuck in.

📍 West Barns Village Hall
📅 This Saturday
⏰ 2–4pm
🎟️ Book your space: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/tweens-session-tickets-1988787770759

We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone there.
