💬 This message from Abdullah in North Darfur arrived today:

"The seedlings failed due to the lack of water, and even the donkeys became weak and could not fetch water from the pumps. Even our drinking water became very difficult."

Abdullah worked so hard for this. Just a month ago he completed an online training course in planting seedlings. But without water, nothing can grow. 💧

The pumps his village relies on need repair, and Abdullah has made us a promise: "If the pumps are maintained, we will plant seedlings in a better way than in the past, I promise you."

We believe him. Will you help him keep that promise? 🙏

🎣 A wonderful day of fishing and fundraising!

Our 10th October Fly Fishing Day raised an incredible £1,359.68! This is enough to provide 54 families in Darfur with vital Kids Kitchen Kits full of protein and nutrients to help feed hungry children ❤️

Imagine starting your day before sunrise just to find water.

In parts of Darfur children are queuing for water before the sun comes up. Instead of carrying school bags they are carrying heavy jerry cans.

Riverbeds that usually fill during the rainy season have remained dry. Pasture has withered. Families are losing the animals they depend on for food and income.

There are real fears that water shortages could continue into 2027.

For children already living through conflict and hunger this is yet another burden they should never have to bear.

At Kids for Kids we work with village committees to help families survive.

When the rains come too late, families pay the price.

Our latest report from Darfur was one of the hardest we have ever received.

This year’s rains, in parts of Darfur, arrived late and fell unreliably. By the time heavier rainfall came in late September it was too late for many crops. Families watched their millet and sorghum fail in the ground.

For families who live harvest to harvest, this is not simply a poor growing season. It is the loss of the food they depend on for the year ahead.

Water is running short. Animals are dying of thirst. Food prices continue to rise as families sell what little they own just to survive.

And all this is happening in the middle of a deadly conflict.

But we are not giving up on Darfur.

Our village committees are working tirelessly to get seeds and food to families who need them most.

Please help us stand alongside communities facing an incredibly difficult future.

Maryam was selected by her village of Um Ga’al to be a beneficiary of the Kids for Kids programme. As part of the support she received, Maryam was given a female donkey through the Animal Loan Committee. 🫏 💛

Maryam worked hard to care for her donkey, learning how well donkeys adapt to their local environment. They can graze freely during the day and return home without needing a herder!

Over the years, Maryam successfully bred her donkey, growing her herd. Today, her donkeys play an important role in her daily life, helping her to:

💧 Collect and carry water home from the local handpump
🌾 Transport crops, hay and goods to market – sometimes travelling as far as 37km
🚜 Plough the land to prepare it for planting

Selling male donkeys from the growing herd has also provided Maryam with an additional source of income, helping to support her children’s education and strengthen her family’s financial security.
