Happy Halloween! It’s the perfect time to dig into the photo archives to repost this rather ‘ghostly’ looking White Saddle mushroom (Helvella Crispa) that one of our garden team discovered lurking in the grounds a couple of years ago. White Saddle mushrooms are creamy-white in colour and commonly found in Europe. They often grow in woodlands that are rich in beech and oak. 🍄

Not every White Saddle mushroom looks like a ghost, but we’re pretty sure this little one is the spoookiest of them all…! 👻

A combined team of talented volunteers, staff and local craft groups have been busily knitting, crocheting and sewing to produce a spectacular cascade of poppies on the water tower next to Visitor Reception. The display comprises around 2,000 poppies and will remain in place from now until Remembrance Day (Wednesday 11 November).

More knitted poppies can be seen in the outside tearoom loggia on the west side of the mansion, placed there in remembrance of the officers who came to Polesden Lacey for rest and recuperation in 1915 and 1916 after being injured in the First World War.

We warmly welcome anyone who would like to come and see the poppy displays and remember those who fought for us.

There’s just one more Production Garden talk to go at Polesden Lacey, taking place tomorrow (Thursday 29 October) at 11am. Join the team for a 45-minute talk about how they look after this important part of the garden, followed by Q&As on what produce is good to grow right now and top tips for your own seasonal crops at home. 🥕🌿🥔

The talk is free after normal property admission. Spaces are limited, so booking is essential online. For more information and to book your place, please visit the Polesden Lacey website.

The Winter Garden at Polesden Lacey will be closed to visitors for the next two weeks while the garden team undertakes essential tree works. As well as the main works, the team will need time to clear debris, make the area safe and restore access.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete these important tasks. We look forward to reopening the Winter Garden as soon as it is safe to do so.

A reminder that the house at Polesden Lacey will close between Monday 2 and Friday 20 November. This is to enable the team to carry out essential winter conservation and get ready to open the doors on our Twelve Days of Christmas extravaganza on Saturday 21 November.

There is still plenty to enjoy during a visit to Polesden Lacey in the meantime, with glorious autumn colour and fun family trails in the grounds, delicious treats in the café and early Christmas gift ideas in the shop. 10am to 4pm.

We’re really enjoying welcoming lots of dogs (and their humans!) to Polesden Lacey this autumn, all keen to collect their latest Pooch Passport stamp. You can pick up a free Pooch Passport from Polesden Lacey and other participating National Trust places when you next visit with your dog to begin collecting stamps to gain fun rewards. 🐾

Pooch Passport runs until 28 February 2027 in partnership with natural pet food maker, Forthglade. Please keep dogs on a lead around livestock, read the signs at field entrances and follow the instructions given. 🐾

Super sleuths and puzzle pundits have just over one week left to solve the Great Polesden Mystery trail, running daily in the grounds at Polesden Lacey until Sunday 1 November.🎃

Examine suspects, play mini games and crack codes to discover who took the prized pumpkin and find it in time for the Autumn display.🍂

10am-3.30pm, £3.50 per trail, includes small prize at the end of the trail. Normal property admission applies.🥇

⚠️ Due to high winds and stormy conditions being forecast, Polesden Lacey will close to visitors all day on Friday 23 October. This includes the car park.

We plan to reopen on Saturday 24 October at 10am, subject to safety checks being carried out. ⚠️

In just one month’s time – on Saturday 21 November – Polesden Lacey will be filled with festive joy and wonder as our Christmas event inspired by the popular carol, The Twelve Days of Christmas, begins. Discover beautiful decorations inside the house, as well as themed displays and festive treats in the café, coffee shop, visitor reception, gift shop, second-hand bookshop and grounds.🎄

Follow the children’s trail around the grounds for even more festive fun and collect a special gift at the end. Normal property admission applies, small additional cost for children’s trail. 🎀

The Twelve Days of Christmas runs at Polesden Lacey from 21 November to 3 January (closed 24/25 December), 10am to 4pm. House opens at 10.30am, last entry 3pm.

The house team is busy preparing the rooms and collections for winter conservation ahead of the house closing for just under three weeks from 2 to 20 November.

However, there is still plenty to see inside the showrooms for the rest of October, including a beautiful knitted pumpkin display in the tearoom and several ‘ghostly' chairs in the picture corridors – on display throughout the half term holiday. 👻🎃👻
