Alternative Provision (AP) in Practice - An Online workshop & Engagement Session for Parent Carers: Wednesday 3rd November at 12.30pm

Kathrine Everett, Alternative Provision and Participation Service Manager at Surrey County Council would like to meet with parent carers to share information, gain feedback and ideas on alternative provision. The session will cover:

• Finding a provider
• Making AP work
• Quality assurance
• How to know what questions to ask of your provider

It will be held online. If you have experience of alternative provision, you are currently trying to access this for your child or young person or would simply like to find out more come along and meet with Kathrine and other parent carers.

Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), also described as a Persistent Drive for Autonomy, is a behavioural profile associated with autism. It involves an intense resistance to perceived demands and requests, often driven by anxiety and a strong need for control.

And when it comes to sleep, everything can feel like a demand – from the bedtime routine to the sleepy/tired signals coming from the body that your child may feel unable to control.

Managing sleep when PDA is involved can be very different from the usual sleep advice you may have been given.

You may have already discovered that traditional “sleep hygiene” strategies simply don’t work for your child. This webinar will explore:

✨ The processes that drive our sleep
✨ How PDA can affect sleep
✨ Why traditional approaches may not work for children with PDA

Family Voice Surrey is launching our new EBSNA Survey!

Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA): Understanding Current Experiences in Surrey

We want to hear from children, young people and families who are experiencing school-based anxiety and difficulties with attendance.

Our original 2021 survey had a significant impact on EBSNA work across Surrey. The experiences shared by families helped highlight the pain, isolation and challenges they were facing and informed the development of training and resources.

Now, we’re asking families to share their current experiences so we can build an up-to-date picture of EBSNA and help shape future support, training and resources across Surrey.

Every response matters. The more experiences we hear, the stronger the evidence we can build.
