It's Talk Money Week, a good opportunity to check you're receiving all the financial support you're entitled to.

Dove House offers free, confidential advice on benefits, including entitlement checks to help identify any support you may be missing out on.

Our drop-in clinics run every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9am to 12.30pm, with no appointment necessary.

If you can't make these times, call 028 7126 9327 to arrange an appointment.

HOME HEATING OIL PAYMENT:

The scheme will provide eligible households with a one-off £100 voucher towards home heating oil costs.

➡ Eligible home heating oil customers must made an applications via the NIdirect website

➡ Applications will open from Wednesday 9 September, running until 31 March 2027.

➡Successful applicants will receive a payment card within 10 working days of applying.

➡It is one payment card per address.

A separate scheme will give ALL households around £50 off their electricity bills in October. This will be applied automatically.

If you are in receipt of one of the following, you will need to upload a Proof of Benefit letter when applying for Free School Meals and Uniform Allowance for the 2026/27 academic year:

➡️ Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
➡️ Guarantee Element of State Pension Credit

You can request a Proof of Benefit letter online: https://t.co/vhcVyDRoi5 (It will take at least five days to be sent to you)

If you receive Universal Credit, you do not need the Proof of Benefit Letter. However, you will need to upload evidence of your Universal Credit entitlement when you apply.

New scams are happening across popular social media platforms.

Communities NI, Department for Work and Pensions - DWP or the UK Government:

• will NEVER charge a fee for benefit services or to get benefit payments, including Universal Credit advance payments
• will NEVER contact you via a social media platform
• will NEVER ask for payment by text or email
• will NEVER ask you to pay money into a bank account that is not yours
• will NEVER ask for any of your private log in details, for example to your Universal Credit online account or online banking.

Always make sure you access the official www.nidirect.gov.uk or www.GOV.uk website before sharing any personal information when claiming or managing your claim online.

If you see or receive anything suspicious about benefit claims, payments and bank details:
• you can report any concerns to www.actionfraud.police.uk
• you can forward a suspicious text for free to 7726 and your mobile network provider will investigate it, and
• you can speak to your local Jobs & Benefits office or benefit branch.
