Stories like this are made possible by our hard working staff and volunteers and through the generosity of our donors. A team effort!

On Monday, our Managing Director Elle travelled to London to celebrate the end of our time on the Pilotlight programme, as one of this year’s Weston Charity Award winners.

All the charities in the 2025/26 cohort were invited to afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason, with a talk from Guy Weston, grandson of founder Garfield Weston.

Through the programme, Elle worked with senior professionals who volunteered their time to help us think strategically about DCM’s future, so we can keep growing our work with people across Derby.

Thank you to Pilotlight and Garfield Weston Foundation for this opportunity and for a lovely celebration.

Christmas Connection 2026 is open!

Christmas should be a joyful time for every child. But this year, many families in Derby are facing hardship or a sudden crisis and won’t be able to afford presents for their children.

Last year, you gave present parcels to 928 Derby children in need. This year, we’re partnering with St Werburgh's Derby Love Christmas program. Families will visit a Christmas Toy Shop at the church to choose a free, high-quality gift for their child. We need your help to fill the shop!

Here’s how you can help:

Buy a gift from our Amazon wishlist: https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/2WHJX7JBHDXX1/ref=hz_ls_biz_ex

Drop off new, unwrapped presents at St Werburgh’s Church, Friar Gate, DE1 1BU, on Sunday 8, 15 or 22 November, between 10am and 2pm.

Volunteer at the toy shop, greeting parents and wrapping presents: https://stwderby.org/lovechristmas

Or simply make a donation: https://www.derbycitymission.org.uk/Appeal/christmas-connection-2026

This week, DCM’s trustees met for their board meeting.

Our trustees take the long view, helping to set the strategic direction for DCM. They also make sure we’re doing what we set out to do and managing the risks we face well, so that our work across Derby can keep growing.

Thank you to each of our trustees for the time, wisdom and care they give to DCM.

Look out for features on some of our trustees during Trustees’ Week, 9 to 13 November, where you’ll find out a bit more about who they are and why they’re involved.

(Pictured are the trustees who were able to attend this most recent meeting.)

Worried about money? You don’t have to face it alone.

Our Jubilee clinic at St Augustine’s Church, Normanton (DE23 8BP), offers free, friendly debt and benefit advice on Wednesdays during term time, from 10am to 12 noon. You don’t need an appointment. Just come along and we’ll put the kettle on.

We can help with benefits, budgeting, credit cards and loans, and provide food support for those who need it.

There’s no clinic today because of half term, but we’re back next Wednesday, 4 November.

Find all our clinic times and locations at https://www.derbycitymission.org.uk/jubileeclinics or call the Jubilee team on 07899 754859.

A big thank you to St Mary’s Church, Chaddesden, for their generous gift of food for our Community Shop!

Every bag will help local families who are struggling to put food on the table, especially as we head towards Christmas. We’re so grateful for your kindness and support.

While most of Derby is asleep, our Street Pastors are out on the streets.

In August alone, our team of volunteers:

- handed out 16 pairs of flip-flops to tired feet

- cleared 170 bottles from the streets

- gave out 37 bottles of water

- had 175 conversations with people out in the city centre

So far this year, they've helped 225 people, 64 more than this time last year.

Thank you to every Street Pastor who gives up their nights to care, help and listen. 🙏

A huge thank you to St Mary’s Church, Crich!

This past Sunday, June visited St Mary’s to share about the work of DCM across all our projects, from supporting people facing homelessness to our Jubilee clinics and Community Shop.

The church family generously gifted 20 bags of food and followed up with a donation of £1,500. Thank you for your kindness and for standing alongside people in Derby who are going through hard times.

If your church would like to hear more about DCM’s work, we’d love to come and visit. Just get in touch!

Every Monday morning, the whole DCM team stops before the week begins. 🙏

We gather to pray for one another, for the people we serve, and for the week to come. Our SHAP team join us online, so wherever we’re working from, we start the week together.

It’s one of the most important parts of our week.

If you pray, we’d love you to pray for DCM on a Monday: for our staff, our volunteers, and every person who walks through our doors this week. 💛

Last Thursday, Elle, our Managing Director, spoke at the Homelessness Service at Derby Cathedral. It was a special evening of Choral Evensong to mark Homelessness Sunday, hosted by Derby Cathedral and Derventio Housing Trust. Several of our staff attended as well. 🙏

It was a privilege to stand alongside people experiencing homelessness in our county. We joined others to celebrate the work of the voluntary, public and private sectors, all striving towards the same goal: that everyone in Derby has a safe place to call home.

Thank you to Derby Cathedral and Derventio Housing Trust for bringing us together, and to everyone who came along. 💛
