“When the nurses came in the last few days, they made me feel safe and helped prepare me for mum’s death… It was such a relief to know I wasn’t on my own, especially through the nights.” - Annie

That’s the heart of what we do.

Hospice at home means:

Specialist nursing, compassionate clinical care that eases symptoms and brings comfort.

Emotional support for the person who is dying and for the people who love them.

A calm presence, especially through the nights, when worries can feel heaviest.

Guidance and reassurance, helping families understand what’s happening and what to expect.

The comfort of not being alone, because no one should face the end of life without support.

It’s about making space for peace, dignity, and connection right where people feel safest.

More people than ever need compassionate, expert end‑of‑life care, and many want that support delivered at home or within their community. At the same time, the NHS and bedded hospices are under growing pressure, making flexible, responsive care more important than ever.

Our new strategy is our commitment to doing exactly that.

Swipe through to explore our four pillars:
1️⃣ Clinical Services: Delivering high‑quality, person‑centred care where it’s needed most.
2️⃣ People and Culture: Empowering our teams and nurturing a culture rooted in compassion.
3️⃣ Awareness and Growth: Reaching more people, earlier, so no one feels alone in their journey.
4️⃣ Financial Sustainability: Building a resilient future so we can continue to serve our community for generations.

This is our moment to step forward together for Derbyshire.

“I felt real fear about talking openly about death and dying… but how can I expect our community to engage with our content and have open conversations if I’m not willing to take that step myself? The impact the training has had on my life has been incredible. Talking about death won’t make it happen, but it will quieten the anxiety around it and shape how you choose to live.”

Our marketing officer, Jo, recently took part in No Barriers Here, and the experience has stayed with her in ways she never expected.

“It made me realise how important it is to focus on what makes me happy and what feels meaningful. I even welcomed a new addition to my home because of the shift it created in me; meet little Pablo! I’m now a huge advocate for normalising conversations around death and dying.”

Jo shared that the training helped her reconnect with what matters most: living in the present, choosing joy, nurturing meaningful relationships, and appreciating her bond with nature and animals.

It’s something every one of us will face, but talking about it doesn’t bring it closer. If anything, it helps us live better, more intentional lives.

No Barriers Here is free to join, runs regularly at Treetops, and is open to the public. Puppies are not guaranteed… but we’re very glad Jo found Pablo along the way.

It’s 3am.

The hour when the world feels quiet… and for many, unbearably lonely.

Have you ever heard, “Just shout if you need anything", and how heavy that can feel when you’re already struggling?

Sometimes the most supportive thing we can do is use clear, direct language:

“I can help with the school run.”
“I can sit with you for an hour.”
“I can bring you a coffee tomorrow.”
Showing up without waiting to be asked.

Tonight, at this quiet hour, we’re thinking about the people who hold us in the dark moments and the people we hold in return.

If you feel comfortable, share with us who your 3am call would be, and whose 3am call you would answer?

We’re here in the darkest hours too, offering compassion, connection, and a reminder that no one should face the night alone.

Yesterday, the brilliant team from JCB rolled up at our Risley grounds to help us with a very exciting project involving our magnificent oak tree, and let’s just say it's going to be something truly special.

In between all the hard work, there was even time for a little mid-week thrill. A few of our team hopped into the telehandler for a ride – rising 23ft into the air before being told there was still another 10 metres to go! Safe to say, the Treetops team had an unforgettable Wednesday morning but were very happy to be back on solid ground before the real graft began.

By generously donating their time, skills and machinery, JCB has made a real difference in helping us create memorable experiences for families and host events that our whole community can enjoy.

Also a huge shoutout and thank you to Josh and Jon Lighting Legends for the lighting installation!

We’re so grateful for their support and we can’t wait to share what they’ve been working on very soon...

After losing his wife Jacqui, Ross described Treetops as a place where he felt “calm”. He said: “You know you’ve got people around you that care. It’s like getting a hug, without getting a hug. I’m indebted to Treetops for their support.”

Ross’s experience of our bereavement counselling highlights the important role that specialist emotional support plays within Treetops.

Counselling is one of our crucial clinical services and an area where we’re committed to developing even deeper expertise. Our new strategy sets out a clear ambition to strengthen Treetops not only as a leading non-bedded hospice, but also as a centre of excellence in trauma-informed emotional support.

By investing in specialist training and supporting student placements, we’re enabling high quality, trauma-informed care that supports our community and the wider system. Read our strategy in full here: http://brnw.ch/21x2EZa

Our Memory Meadow, taking place Saturday 20 June, will bring people together to celebrate the lives of those they love.

It’s a space full of warmth, reflection and hope.

You don’t need to have used Treetops services to attend or to purchase a Forget‑Me‑Not.

By choosing a handcrafted Forget‑Me‑Not, you’ll be honouring someone special while helping us provide essential care for local people living with life‑limiting illnesses.

Sudden and traumatic loss can transform lives in a moment.

Each year, we support hundreds of patients and families affected by su***de, road traffic collisions, homicide and other forms of traumatic death. As a national centre of excellence, we provide specialist therapies for trauma related to death and bereavement, offering skilled, compassionate support when it’s needed most.

Dawn French’s article shares a powerful and honest reflection on grief and highlights why expert, trauma‑informed care is so vital.

This is an essential conversation and one we are dedicated to leading.

If you or someone close to you needs support, our team is here.

Dawn French has spoken candidly about the enduring effect of her father's death by su***de. 💔😢

The 68-year-old's dad died in 1977 aged 45 when she was just 19 years old.

In her new book Enough, the actress tackles ageing, mortality and the taboo topic of su***de, which she admitted has occasionally entered her thoughts. 📚💭

"I've faced a lot of my thoughts and fears about it," she told The Times.

Looking back on her father's death, she added: "Su***de lives in my brain in a way it might not for somebody who hasn't experienced it so closely.

"And as I've got older, I want to talk about the big things. I set out to write something I'm a bit afraid to admit; that getting older is difficult, end of life is difficult, su***de is difficult."

The actress revealed that while thoughts of su***de have entered her mind as she has aged, she emphasised: "I don't think I would ever make this choice," though acknowledged she can understand why some people do.

The Vicar of Dibley star said her father "lived his whole life with this suicidal ideation and with depression", noting that while she doesn't know all the details, she knew he had previously attempted to take his own life while training at RAF Halton.
