We work hard to make the meadows a wonderful place for wildlife, so it's really exciting when we record new species moving in. This week, were were delighted to find this beautiful Bee Orchid (Ophrys apifera) growing here. The bee orchid is a sneaky mimic - the flower’s velvety lip looks like a female bee. Males fly in to try to mate with it and end up pollinating the flower.

Who or What am I? Answer: Ash The leaves can move in the direction of sunlight, and sometimes the whole crown of the tree may lean in the direction of the sun. Yes we’ve had to cut down some because of ash die back, but others are still here.

Who or What am I? Hint 1: Its leaves are amongst the latest to appear & the first to drop in the autumn, often still green. Both male and female flowers are purple and appear before the leaves in spring, growing in spiked clusters at the tips of twigs. Second hint at noon.

Who or What am I? Answer: False ladybird or Endomychus coccineus All that glitters is not gold and all little black and red beetles are not ladybirds. The easiest way to tell it is not a ladybird is that its antennae do not have a ‘club’ at the ends.
