Our volunteers at St Peter’s Hospital in Maldon have been making a difference in more ways than one. In addition to running the hospital tearoom to support patients and visitors, they chose to donate profits from the tearoom to two local charities. Last week, three of our volunteers, Caroline Lambert, Linda Sanderson and Mel Wisbey, had the pleasure of visiting one of the charities, Action for Family Carers, to present the donation and meet CEO James Clarke and Kath Vale, Head of Business and Development Partnerships.
This contribution is a wonderful example of the lasting impact volunteering can have across our communities.

One of our volunteers recently reached the exceptional milestone of 10 years of volunteering service with us.
Bridget Couch was presented with a long service certificate and a bouquet of flowers, at our recent Learning and Development Awards event, in recognition of the incredible contribution she has made over the years. A former district nurse at Halstead Hospital, Bridget returned to the hospital, a few years after retiring, as a volunteer to welcome patients and their families to the Physiotherapy Clinic; a truly valuable role as the clinic, at first, had no receptionist. Although Bridget has now stepped away from her volunteering role, she continues to be an active supporter of the hospital through the League of Friends.
Thank you, Bridget, for your dedication and support over the past decade.

This morning, our Volunteering Manager, Sarah Wright, had the pleasure of meeting Sylvie, Gill and Patricia, three members of a small team of wonderful volunteers for the Tissue Viability service at Braintree Community Hospital, and invited them for tea and cake to celebrate Volunteers’ Week.
The volunteers give several hours of their time each week to meet and greet patients and take great pride in the fact that their friendly smiles are helping patients, their families and colleagues through their day. Their support is greatly appreciated by the service on many levels - from bringing a warmth and reassurance, to helping clinics to run smoothly and enabling patients feel comfortable to share feedback which, in turn, contributes to the continual improvement of the overall patient experience.

Some of our volunteers received training and then enjoyed tea and cupcakes at St Peter’s Hospital in Maldon this afternoon. For those who run the hospital tearoom, offering refreshments to patients and families, it made a nice change for them to relax and be served.
It was a great opportunity to combine learning with a social catch-up during Volunteers’ Week, celebrating the incredible contribution our volunteers make to the community.
If you are local to St Peter’s Hospital and would like to help to run the tearoom, we would love to hear from you. We also have opportunities to contribute as Welcome Volunteers, greeting and sign posting patients to their clinics and appointments. To find out more, email [email protected].

Thank you for everything you do.
