Wellies On - Community Interest Company

Wellies On - Community Interest Company Care Farm - The therapeutic use of farming practices. "Tell me and I'll forget; Show me and I might remember; Involve me and I'll Understand."

Wellies-On is a care farm that is owned and managed by founder, Ellie Goff - a qualified teacher with lived experience as a parent/carer of children with SEND. Ellie is also an equine specialist, with a lifetime of farming experience. All of the team at Wellies-On are DBS checked and combine a wealth of experience and qualifications including teaching and mental health professionals and occupation

al therapists. Based on a small holding in Colchester, Essex, Wellies-On offers holistic one to one and group therapeutic experiences in a farm environment. All work is done at your own pace and the centre is open to referrals from anyone who might benefit from this form of therapeutic and activity. We offer Equine Assisted Wellbeing and Equine Assisted Learning, fully qualified and delivered under the EAGALA model of practice. The site itself boasts a fully equipped centre, including a disabled toilet and commercial grade kitchen facility, stables, goat barn, as well as fields of grazing animals such as pygmy goats, sheep, horses, pigs, ducks and chickens. The farm also aims to be as environmentally friendly as possible, recycling water and using renewable energy from the farm's wind turbine and solar pannels. As the centre is set in the heart of the Essex countryside, certain conservation activities are also available alongside a horticultural project making use of our vegetable plot and polytunnel. Co-farmers coming to the centre enjoy the experiences as a holistic experience and engage with all animals across the farm. We create tailor made sessions for individuals and small groups. For more information on any aspect of our centre or to arrange a visit please contact us.

There are days that remind us exactly why our work matters 💚

…Today, our Wellies-On team took the farm to a local care home Woodland View Care Home - Barchester Healthcare, and it turned into something extra special 💖

Our animals, including our very charming pygmy goats, visited residents both in their rooms and out in the garden.

With the sun shining, preschool children joined us too with thanks to Shannon from Chestnut Childminding and Emily from Little Starfish Childminding for creating a joyful intergenerational experience.

But behind these moments is our dedicated team. Both back at the farm holding the fort and helping us to load and unload as well as out on visits.
We’re not just bringing animals, we’re bringing expertise and care. Among us today we had an occupational therapist, a qualified social worker, and a trauma-informed practitioner and teacher. Together, we create meaningful connections, supporting both body and mind 💚

It was a day of sunshine, smiles, and the kind of joy that lingers long after. This is what happens when community, nature, and compassion all come together.

It’s been a little quieter than usual on here recently.

If we’re honest, for both the staff and volunteer team..:life has felt quite full (and at times overwhelming) behind the scenes, and we just haven’t had the headspace to show up online in the way that we normally would.

But here at Wellies-On… it hasn’t stopped!

Kidding season has begun 🐐 and we’ve had some very special arrivals - including a three-legged pygmy kid (Peggy) who is absolutely thriving and already stealing hearts 💖

Across the farm, everything is bursting into life 🌱 The days are getting longer (thank goodness!), the plants are growing in the allotment and polytunnel, and that sense of renewal is all around us.

Our co-farmer sessions have been incredibly busy (bottle feeding is of course the new favourite thing to do!), our diaries are filling fast, and we’ve been deep in planning…from corporate team away days, to our upcoming Flat Pack Farm events, to partnership work alongside other brilliant charities and CICs.

Behind it all, our team continues to show up with so much care and dedication. As a team with lived parent-carer experience, we understand the realities of balancing life, work, and wellbeing…and we make time for each other too, because staying strong together is what allows us to keep supporting others 💞

We’re also really excited to be developing a new ‘Retreat & Empower’ event for parent carers later this spring… more details coming soon 😉💛

So while it may have been quiet on here, there has been so much happening!

Thank you, as always, for being part of our community 💚💛💚

The girls are loving the real Christmas tree donations that have already started to come in. Especially during this cold snap, keeping them eating helps to keep them warm from the inside - and they love a Christmas tree! We only ask that you ensure that it has not been sprayed and that all tinsel etc is fully removed. 🙏

Hello 2026 - we’re back ✨🐐

Today marks our first day back after the holidays, and we’re stepping gently into the new year with gratitude and renewed purpose.

Looking back on 2025, we’re incredibly proud of
• the young people and families who achieved so much here
• our trauma-informed, OT-led programmes growing in depth and impact
• new partnerships, opportunities and animal friendships
• being finalists at the National Diversity Awards 2025 – Community Organisation, a monumental milestone we’re truly thankful for 🌟

A huge thank-you to everyone who has walked alongside us…our families, participants, volunteers, staff team, referrers and supporters, including
👉 National Diversity Awards
👉 Social Farms & Gardens - Ffermydd a Gerddi Cymdeithasol
👉 Contact - For families with disabled children
👉 Community360
👉Essex SU VTeam
👉Essex County Council
👉 local schools, professionals and partner organisations who continue to place their trust in our work 💛

Our family and farm team have kept everything ticking over through the break, and some of our staff and volunteers return from today to help us ease back into sessions on Monday.

As we prepare ourselves for the start of the year, and look ahead to the Year of the Horse in February - we’re hopeful for the courage, connection and positive momentum of 2026.

📆 October 2025 also saw us step into our 20th year of service delivery. Throughout 2026 we’ll be continuing to recognise and celebrate this milestone - reflecting on two decades of nature-based, therapeutic support while also looking ahead to how we can strengthen and sustain our work for the future.
We’d really welcome conversations around partnerships, commissioning, collaboration, volunteering, corporate and community support, and opportunities that help us extend our reach and impact…as well as of course, celebrating this great milestone!

Thank you for being part of our community 🐐🐑🐹🐷🐴🐾🐓🦆🐢🌱
