Decades Club
a weekly support space for parents navigating the heartbreak, worry, and emotional exhaustion of having an adult child in addiction.

🗓️Thursdays Every Week
🕦1pm – 2.30pm
📍The Tree Room, Colchester

Created by parents, for parents, Decades Club offers ongoing support, understanding, and connection with others who truly get it.

Together we'll explore some of the challenges parents tell us affect them most: feeling alone and unheard, carrying guilt and self-blame, being the rescuer, navigating family dynamics, coping with uncertainty, reclaiming a life that may have become smaller, and facing fears about the future.

Alongside conversation and connection, you'll be introduced to gentle self-compassion practices that can help you care for yourself whilst loving someone who is struggling.

A safe, non-judgemental space to exhale, be heard, and find support for the long haul.

And yes, there will be plenty of tea, cake, and cuppas too. Book a ticket so we know you are coming. Or drop in on the day. 🤗

🌸 Blossome Community - What’s on this month🌸

We’re so excited about what’s coming up in the Blossome Community this month. Our June theme is Cultivating Happiness.

Not the kind of happiness that asks us to ignore life’s challenges or put on a brave face. The kind that grows through small moments of connection, gratitude, self-compassion, creativity, courage, and joy.

Throughout the month we’ll be exploring how to notice and nurture what supports our wellbeing, even when life feels difficult.

Here’s what’s coming up:

🧘‍♀️Resourcing Me
Our weekly self compassion class. Learn to be kinder to yourself. This month we’ll be looking at how we can intentionally cultivate happiness by noticing and receiving the good that is already present in our lives. A gentle space for reflection, learning, connection and support.

🌸Decades Club
When you've carried this for years, you shouldn't have to carry it alone. Decades Club is a weekly support space for parents affected by their adult child's addiction, offering understanding, connection, self-compassion, tea, cake, and a community that truly gets it.

🌅Sunrise Dip & Breakfast Experience
There’s something magical about starting the day by the sea. Join us for an invigorating sunrise dip followed by breakfast and good company. A beautiful opportunity to connect with nature, yourself and others.

🧵 Slow Stitching
No experience needed. Just bring yourself. Slow stitching offers a chance to slow down, create with your hands, enjoy conversation (or quiet), and experience the calming rhythm of mindful creativity.

🌊 PAUSE: Self-Care Day by the Sea
A full day dedicated to you. Time to step away from responsibilities, reconnect with yourself, and experience restorative self-care in a beautiful coastal setting. Expect gentle practices, connection, reflection and space to simply be.

Sometimes the hardest part is showing up.

If you’re new to Blossome, or returning after some time away, please know that you’re warmly welcome. And if walking through the door feels like a big step, our Blooming Companions can offer support, answer questions, or meet you when you arrive.

You don’t have to do this alone.

Which activity is calling to you this month? 💕

🌊 Three Days. New Horizons. Applications Now Open.⛵🌊Join us for our 3-Day Sailing Experience on Pioneer! ⛵

What if you gave yourself permission to step away from the everyday for a few days?

To swap routines, responsibilities and worry for fresh sea air, adventure, connection and a chance to discover what you're capable of?

We're delighted to offer 10 Blossome community members the opportunity to join us aboard Pioneer, a beautiful historic sailing vessel, for a 3-day residential sailing experience from Brightlingsea to the stunning Walton Backwaters.

No sailing experience is needed.

Whether you've never stepped foot on a sailing boat or you've always dreamed of trying something like this, you'll be supported by Pioneer Sailing Trust's professional crew every step of the way.

This is more than a sailing trip. It's an opportunity to:

🌸Take genuine time for yourself
🌸 Try something completely new
🌸 Build confidence and resilience
🌸 Connect with others who understand the impact of loving someone with addiction
🌸 Experience teamwork, achievement and adventure
🌸 Enjoy moments of calm, reflection and connection with nature
🌸 Create memories you'll carry long after you return home

This opportunity is open to people who have been affected by a loved one's addiction and have had contact with Blossome.

Spaces are limited to just 10 participants, and we'll be having a conversation with everyone who applies to make sure the experience is right for them and to answer any questions they may have.

Sometimes healing asks us to do something different.

Could this be your adventure?

We are at the Kelvedon & Feering Health Centre for their monthly wellbeing day. This place is buzzing! Not the normal silent GP waiting room.
People are chatting and getting support for their wellbeing. We love this! It’s a great way to learn more about health in the community.

Communities always have so much to offer and this is a great way for people to find out about what’s available.

More of this is needed for sure.

Do you have an event that you’d like us to come to? We can teach people simple selfcare practices to regulate their emotions and nervous systems. Get in touch 🤗 🌸

Last week we held our very first session of Decades Club. This weekly support group was set up due to the increasing numbers of people in their 60s, 70s and 80s, supporting their adult children struggling with addiction.

This is a message from From Carol, a mom supporting her adult son, for over 30years.

“The first session of the Decades club was a resounding success. We talked about many ways the group could support us. We decided to bring topics next week that we felt were relevant. Having a monthly theme to focus on, and of course selfcare learning to support ourselves.

It was the shared experience of the group, we all brought similar long term challenges that are part of our daily lives. Knowing we share the same passion to make the best of family life. We know the wider family are affected by one persons addictions. We also shared that the world is not always understanding or kind to people who don’t fit a certain mould. We want to explore the idea of kindness for all of society. Blossome was very aware of our needs and a way forward that can support us in finding helpful support. Fantastic start to a journey of healing.”

If you are supporting your adult children through their addiction, you are very welcome to join us . You can book your free space so we can help you get to the sessions, or simply dropin. 🤗

This morning at 5am. There’s nothing quite like a sunrise by the sea. You can feel the energy as it lifts your whole heart.

The rhythmic sound of the waves calms the nervous system. The sun warms you through. And connection with others as you wander into the sea, makes everything seem possible.

Would you like to experience this feeling, the feeling of a reset for your whole body, hear and soul?

You are welcome to join us. Everyone is welcome. 🤗

Our next sunrise dip and breakfast experience is Sunday 07 June.

It’s looking to be a corker of a sunrise tomorrow. 🌅
Who would like to join us for a dip and breakfast in the beach hut?

The water is warming up.
The breeze gentle.
The sun will be shining in a clear sky. I wonder what colour the sky and beach will be?

Our dips are super supportive and calm. And we even supply the kit. Thermal socks, gloves, flotation device and dry robes too! Perfect for first timers 🤗

Proud to be attending the Co-op Annual Members Meeting. 😊

The Co-op has provided funding to us through their Community Cares fund, managed by Essex Community Foundation.

The vital funding we have received is enabling us to recruit a part-time Volunteer Coordinator for our self-care community. Growing our volunteer base is a vital part of our strategy, for sustainability.

Many of our volunteers come from within the Blossome community, and have much lived experience about being affected by someone else’s drinking, drug use, gambling or any addiction. Some volunteers are also becoming Blooming Companions, walking along side new community members, making it a little easier to take those first steps for their own self care.

This funding, will make a huge difference for us. We can hardly wait to welcome a new Colunteer Coordinator starting in June! Thank you to the Co-op for making this possible. 🤗

🌸Resourcing Me🌸 This Week
Communicating with Compassion & Clarity
Exploring Fear of Conflict through Self-Compassion

This month in Resourcing Me, we’ve been exploring Healthy Boundaries & Communication through the lens of self-compassion.

In Week 1, we focused on awareness
noticing our feelings, needs, energy, and limits with kindness rather than judgement. We explored how healthy boundaries begin with awareness.

In Week2, we explored what can happen when we begin noticing our needs but struggle to honour them, the guilt, people-pleasing, self-doubt, and fear of disappointing others that can make saying no feel difficult.

Week3, This week, we’re moving into the communication side of boundaries.

Because boundaries are not only something we feel internally, they often need communication externally too. And for many of us, that can feel vulnerable, uncomfortable and hard.

Many people fear conflict because they learned that expressing needs, disagreeing, or being honest could threaten connection, safety, or acceptance. So we stay quiet, over-explain, soften ourselves, or avoid difficult conversations altogether.

Together, we’ll gently explore how self-compassion can help us stay connected to ourselves while communicating with more honesty, kindness, clarity, and care.

✨ Guided Mindful self-compassion meditation
✨ Nervous system grounding
✨ Gentle reflection & community connection
✨ No experience needed

All are welcome whether you’ve attended before or are joining for the first time. Come exactly as you are.
