It is with heavy hearts that we have learned that Doris Ketley has "gone home" at the age of 94. We were only recently informed of her passing, which we understand took place late last year.

Doris was a remarkable part of our community, dedicating over 30 years of her life to Scouting in a variety of roles, at County, District and Group levels. Many of you will also fondly remember her as a familiar and beloved face working tirelessly behind the scenes at Chelmsford Gang Show. Her commitment, warmth, and unwavering support touched the lives of countless young people and fellow volunteers.

Our thoughts are with her family, her friends, and everyone who had the privilege of Scouting alongside her. She will be deeply missed, but her incredible legacy within Essex and Chelmsford Scouting will undoubtedly live on.

Members of Horizon Scout Network have been busy! Last night saw the presentation of six Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards as well as 4 Kings Scouts Awards - the two top awards that can be earned by a Scout. Well done everyone!

There may be fewer volunteer awards than usual this quarter, but we’re incredibly proud of everyone who has been recognised - and especially grateful to those who have dedicated more than half a century to Scouting. Thank you for everything you do!

119 years since the very first experimental Scout camp pitched up on Brownsea Island, Dorset.

We’re so proud of everything our volunteers have done since then to give young people a place to belong. Thank you to you all! 🙌

2026 is a big celebration year for The Scouts - and Chelmsford isn't missing out on the fun!

We’re marking 5 years of Squirrels, 40 years of Beavers, and a huge 110 years of Cubs. Last weekend, hundreds of young people joined us, braved the heat, and made the most of an afternoon packed with games, activities, entertainment… and plenty of cake - safe to say, the cake didn’t last long!

A Special Visitor for Chelmsford Scouts!

Today we had the pleasure of hosting Maya, an Explorer Scout from Great Yarmouth. Along with her parents, Maya is on a mission to visit as many Scout Halls as possible in just one week - she might even be setting a world record!

She’s already stopped by several Chelmsford groups today, is camping locally tonight, and will be visiting a few more of our groups tomorrow morning before heading further afield
Maya is doing all of this to raise funds to attend next year's World Scout Jamboree in Poland.
