Litter kills 3 million animals a year in the UK - put it in the bin.

Not such an amazing day out for this little one.

Drowned after crawling inside a discarded crisp packet.

Animals don’t understand packaging. They don’t see ‘rubbish’ - they see shelter, food or somewhere to hide. A crisp packet becomes a trap. A plastic bottle becomes a death sentence. A discarded bag becomes something they can’t escape from.

They suffocate. They starve. They drown. And most of the time, no one ever knows.

Over 3 million animals die each year because of litter. Not in some distant place, but here, around us. In our parks, rivers, streets and coastlines. This isn’t accidental in the way we like to think it is. It’s the direct result of a system that produces endless single-use waste, with no real accountability for where it ends up.

No animal should suffer at the hands of humans, and yet, through carelessness and convenience, millions do.

From the manufacturers who create the packaging to the businesses which sell it to the consumers who drop it. The government need to provide stronger legislation around littering. Sign the petition if you agree.

With the heatwave continuing this week, we’d like to remind everyone to please dispose of litter responsibly — especially glass bottles.

Yesterday evening, several of our volunteers cleared a large number of discarded glass bottles from parks and green spaces across Chelmsford. In hot weather, glass left in grass and dry areas can become a serious fire risk and threaten our beautiful green spaces and local wildlife.

Below is just some of what one volunteer found hidden in long grass in Boleyn Gardens — including beer bottles, plastic bottles, and other litter.

Please help us keep Chelmsford safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone by using the litter bins provided or taking rubbish home with you.

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers for their hard work and dedication 💚

🦊 Our wildlife shouldn’t suffer like this because of human carelessness - we’re supposed to be a nation of animal lovers, we need to act like it 🚮💚

Five of our members met up yesterday to do a pick in Old Moulsham. They collected 9 sacks, 5 vapes & 4 NOS cylinders.

Several members of the public stopped to say thank you which was greatly appreciated.

You might see the green sacks awaiting collection next to litter bins on Moulsham Street, New Writtle Street, near Virgin gym & on New London Road. A bit of playground sign cleaning was also carried out 🗑️💚
