As we celebrate learning disability week this week, All Wales People First, Chief Executive - Joe Powell shines a light on our members and people with a learning disability we find harder to connect with.

Joe talks about the benefits of self advocacy for people with learning disability, and why this week reminds us that our movement matters. Why every voice matters!

We look forward to seeing you next week for the self advocacy event of the year

"See Me" was written with people with learning disabilities following a discussion around jobs and volunteering
opportunities. It was written as part of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Regional Learning Disabilities Group.
We think it's a great message about choice and opportunity

We’re hearing a lot from legal experts, such as Barrister Oliver Lewis, about the severe impact of a recent landmark Supreme Court case.

While it stems from a Northern Irish reference, this judgment directly alters the legal definition of deprivation of liberty across England and Wales with immediate effect, completely overturning the 2014 Cheshire West 'acid test’.

In the video below, Oliver Lewis explains exactly why this ruling presents a massive challenge to disability rights.

“All Wales People First wants to make sure that all people with learning disabilities in Wales have fair choice, support, and representation in all walks of life. We will keep a watch on this matter with urgent interest and deep concern” - Joe Powell, Chief Executive, All Wales People

The 'Our Past, Their Future' project is run by Mencap in collaboration with the National Heritage Lottery. We are focused on recording the experiences of parents of children (of any age) with learning disabilities in Wales over the last 80 years. Eventually all of our research will be pooled together into a travelling exhibition which will be displayed at:

St Fagans National Museum of History, Cardiff
Storiel Musuem, Bangor
Torfaen Museum, Pontypool
Scolton Manor, Pembrokeshire

Have you seen the new website Get Checked Out?

It's a website which brings together health and wellbeing information from all the health boards in Wales into one place. It's sure to be a brilliant resource and a place where you can find out the information you need in your area.

It's being hosted by our friends and colleagues at CC4LD
