Early Warning of Road Closure: Cowcombe Hill.

We have been informed that the A419 will be closed between Chalford and the Aston Down roundabout from 2nd November 2026 until 30th April 2027.

The work will be carried out by National Highways. Extensive geotechnical work is needed to prevent the road collapsing down the hill.

The official diversion is 32 miles via Nailsworth and Tetbury. We appreciate that many will find this too far and will seek alternatives, but we ask that you do what you can to minimise impact on local residents.

I note that there are local history groups in Bisley, Minchinhampton, Chalford, and Stroud, but we have nothing here in Brimscombe and Thrupp.

I'm wondering if there would be sufficient interest in setting something up? I'd like to think we could maybe start to gather knowledge from local residents and record it as part of the Parish website. A mix or oral history, local characters, old photographs and so on. Bi-monthly meets for a chat and a beer at the Ship maybe?

Send me an email at [email protected] or comment on this post and I'll see what I can do.

As we approach the summer holidays, the Parish Council is keen to hear ideas from the community about activities they would like to see offered, especially for older children/young adults who live in or adjacent to our parish.

We are happy to fund whatever we can, and recently our offerings on Forest School, Technology days, and Circus Skills have been well-attended. We are always looking to improve and expand our efforts though.

So if you have ideas on what could be provided not only for 5 to 10 year olds but also for the 10 to 16 year old segment, please let us know. And if you are a provider and would like to put on something, we be very happy to talk to you about funding it.

Please contact Penny in the first instance at [email protected]

ATTENTION DOG OWNERS

We have received complaints about people walking their dogs off the lead along the canal towpath, particularly in the vicinity of the Brewery. On at least one occasion this has led to a dog on a lead being bitten by an uncontrolled dog.

It is simply not enough to claim that your dog has good recall, there is insufficient space along the canal for dogs to be allowed to roam free. For the sake of the other towpath users, the wildlife, and yourselves, please ensure your dog is on a lead and properly under control.

Stroud District Council enforces a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) that requires all dogs to be kept on a lead on canal towpaths and designated cycle tracks, and this can result in a £75 fixed penalty notice.

ANNUAL PARISH ASSEMBLY AND COMMUNITY AWARDS

Thursday 7th May 6-8.30pm, The Sanctuary (Long Table)

The Parish Council is hosting the Annual Parish Assembly (APA) on Thursday 7th May at 6pm. The purpose of the Annual Parish Assembly is to give the Parish Council and other local organisations an opportunity to come together and to update residents about what they have been doing over the past year.

The meeting is also an opportunity for electors to have a say on anything they consider valuable to the Parish. The meeting is different to a Parish Council meeting and refreshments will be served. We would like to invite anyone in the Parish to attend.

Don't forget, there is still time to nominate a parishioner for a Community Award. The Parish Council Community Awards aim to recognise and celebrate the achievements and dedication from individuals who have worked hard to improve this community.

If you would like to nominate a resident or organisation that you believe is deserving of such recognition then get in touch by emailing Penny, the Assistant Clerk [email protected]
