Entry to the centre is free of charge and provides information on fossils the local coastal and marine wildlife. We also offer a wide range of public events throughout

the year and an extensive schools programme that brings learning to life in the great outdoors. Being a charitable trust we are largely reliant on support and donations from members and visitors to the centre. We have a range of voluntary opportunities available, if you want to gain experience in this field or if you have any time to give, we would like to hear from you.

11 year old Emily found this fossil fish at Charmouth. Emily took it to Steve Etches, who after careful examination identified it as a fish! It would've been swimming in the Jurassic seas alongside ammonites and ichthyosaurs

It's hard to keep your eyes off the ground when you're out on the beach, but it can be so worth it! Walking from Lyme to Charmouth, this fossil hunter caught one of our wardens as we wrapped up a walk to check what he'd found. We got pretty excited seeing a plesiosaur vertebra as nice as this one!

We love seeing all the entrants for the Children's Fossil Competition that have come from our beaches in Charmouth. There really are some spectacular finds, like this winning piece of crinoid spotted by Sammy Edmonds aged 8 for the 2025 competition!
