We are adept at exploring global themes and spotting their local implications. The GLADE Centre is a Global Learning and Development Education Centre, based in Somerset. We are the lead provider of international and global education services across Somerset, North Somerset, Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire, BANES, Wiltshire and on request, further afield. We offer exciting activitie
s, workshops, projects and training to bring the world into schools and communities across the SW. We are adept at face to face delivery and online delivery, always live, always interactive, building a sense of collaboration and a shared space for learning. The Global Learning And Development Education Centre works in the formal education and community sectors to ensure that people across Somerset and beyond, find out about the connections we have with people and places overseas, and about the connections global issues have to our own, local issues of Somerset. Since the early 1990s, we have worked to promote the positive results and impacts that bringing the world to Somerset’s schools and communities has. We have a national reputation for quality delivery and international reach if needed. What we do
GLADE works with and delivers services to nurseries, schools, education and youth service providers, non-government organisations, teachers, youth workers, local authorities, businesses and the general public and their communities across Somerset and counties in the South West. Our areas of expertise include school partnerships, community linking, global youth work, sustainable living, child rights, diverse Somerset, the SDGs and learning in the outdoors. Why we do it
Global benefits - global learning is about recognising and understanding our connections with others around the world, through the food we eat, the items we use and the people we meet. It’s about valuing our individual capacity to create positive change and make a difference. Through awareness and empowerment we can build a more just and sustainable future for everyone everywhere. Local benefits – global learning encourages confidence, open-mindedness, and critical and creative thinking. It’s about recognising and making connections at local level to make sense of issues and successes of our everyday lives. It’s about acquiring knowledge and practising skills that benefit individuals, families, employers and communities. Skill and values, that are essential for happy, healthy and successful lives where people join in with their communities. Routes into global learning and sustainable development can be through an intercultural lens, or a sustainability lens, or a human rights lens or a global citizenship lens. Themes we consider include’:
Global citizenship;
Conflict resolution;
Diversity;
Human rights;
Interdependence;
Social justice;
Sustainable development;
Values and perceptions. https://glade.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/wsfGLP.png
