* Sir Alf Ramsey – England player and the manager who led England to the 1966 World Cup victory. The United Grand Lodge of England confirms he joined Waltham Abbey Lodge No. 2750 in Essex in 1953 and remained a member for nearly 30 years.
* Dixie Dean – One of England’s greatest goalscorers, capped 16 times by England. UGLE records state he was initiated into Randle Holme Lodge No. 3261 in Birkenhead in 1930.
* Sir Stanley Matthews – England legend and the first European Footballer of the Year. UGLE states he joined Clifton Lodge No. 703 in Blackpool in 1948.
