Entire species risk being sacrificed under the false premise that nature blocks development! ⚠️🏗️

The central reason given by Government for the new Planning and Infrastructure Bill, that nature is a blocker to development, has been undermined by the Government’s own impact assessment. 🙄

We CAN protect nature and build homes, but not through the current Bill. It’s time for ministers to follow the evidence and amend the Planning and Infrastructure Bill before it devastates nature in the name of a false diagnosis!

✍️ Do you agree? Then speak up for nature by co-signing our open letter today: https://wtru.st/planning2025

Volunteering doesn't always mean practical work on our nature reserves! 🛠️

We also have volunteers supporting us in our offices across Somerset, including through remote & hybrid working! At the moment, we're actively looking for volunteers to help us fill the following roles:

💻 Volunteer Communications Assistant: to support our busy Communications Team with social media content generation, data collection, and event promotion.

📸 Photography Volunteer: a photographer or photographers ready to help tell the story of Somerset's wildlife and wild places through imagery.

You can find out more about these roles and what volunteering with us might look like here: www.somersetwildlife.org/volunteering-opportunities-remote-hybrid-work

🌿 It is Day 6 of our January Nature Challenge 🌿

It is also Epiphany, or Twelfth Night. According to Christian tradition, dating back to the 4th century, bad luck shall befall anyone who keeps their Christmas decorations up beyond today!

Fortunately, Somerset Council Waste Services have made it really easy to dispose of your Christmas tree. If you have signed up for the garden waste collections, you can just leave it out with your kerbside recycling, providing it is under 6ft. You could also compost it, or make it into an amazing wildlife corner if you have room in your garden!

Take a look at the Somerset Council website for more ideas of how to dispose of tour tree this year: https://www.somerset.gov.uk/news/make-your-christmas-green-recycle-your-tree/ #:~:text=Garden%20Waste%20Service%20subscribers%20can%20put%20their%20decoration-free,unless%20you%20subscribe%20to%20the%20Garden%20Waste%20Service.
