Help from Bournemouth to Ukraine turns international to become Ukraine Relief

Following overwhelming support from Bournemouth residents and businesses, Help from Bournemouth to Ukraine has grown to receive national and international support from the whole of the UK, Europe, Canada and the USA. The momentous shift in support has inspired the charity to change its name to Ukraine Relief to become a

n ‘international army of hope’. Launched in February 2022 by Karol Swiacki, the group quickly gathered support as residents of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole donated items, time, and money to help the hundreds of thousands who have been forced to leave their homes and belongings to flee the conflict in Ukraine. What started as a small group of 100 volunteers in Bournemouth has now become an organised international network, with hubs across the south of England, Poland and Ukraine. Karol Swiacki comments: “What makes us so effective is our ability to get urgent aid directly to where it is most needed. For those looking for a way to support the Ukrainian people, we have a logistics network running directly from our hubs in the UK all the way to eastern Ukraine.”

Karol adds: “This started as a small group of volunteers with massive support from the people of Bournemouth and the surrounding areas. It’s now grown into something international, we’ve been overwhelmed by people’s generosity, and by how quickly this has grown. We really want to thank the community in Bournemouth, as without them, we wouldn’t have gotten to where we are now, it all started with their support.” Ukraine Relief’s mission is to be the UK’s most effective Ukrainian relief effort and to ensure the maximum impact for every item and every pound donated. From logistical to financial to material contributions, Ukraine Relief welcomes a wide range of support from businesses and the public.

“We are now asking businesses and individuals looking to make a real difference on the ground in Ukraine to contact us – whether you can donate money or goods, we can get essential supplies directly to where they are needed the most,” says Karol. “Our partners in Ukraine, including city mayors, local authorities and charities, are regularly updating us on the latest items and support required.” Karol continues “From clothing, food and toiletries, all the way through to communications and medical equipment. Financial donations allow us to source essential supplies and provide direct support. Our impact depends on getting what people really need to them as quickly as we can, and people’s generous contributions are helping us to do exactly that.”

“Every pound, every hour, every donation really does make a huge difference to the lives of those that have been torn apart by this awful war. We want the people of Ukraine to know that the UK is with them, we have not forgotten them.”

🌻A Wonderful Week at Ukraine Relief Hub! 🌻

What a wonderful start at our Castlepoint Shopping Park HUB in Bournemouth! Once again, our amazing volunteers pulled together, brought plenty of positive energy and made sure everything ran smoothly. We could not have asked for a better team or a warmer opening week!

Today, we received an amazing donation from Hope Lebedyn. It is wonderful to see one charity supporting another so that together we can provide a vital lifeline to people in Ukraine.

Igor and Karol Swiacki went to collect another donation from the one and only Kind Englishman, and they were not expecting such an enormous amount of support! Once again, he surprised us with his extraordinary generosity. The huge quantity of donated food will help many families and individuals who need it most.

We were also delighted to welcome some familiar faces our regular aid donors, who continue to visit us with much-needed supplies. A very special thank you to Paul Hutton-Cornish and Sally Hutton-Cornish from Swanage for your generous donations and for all the time and effort you put into collecting and organising everything. Your kindness, dedication and continued support are truly appreciated!
Sam Dunlop also visited us today with SNUG donations packed with urgently needed aid. Thank you SNUG team.
Earlier this week, Organix Food generously supported our work with another valuable donation.

Our next lorry 🚛 will travel to the Sumy region, where humanitarian aid is desperately and immediately needed. For many people there, access to this support can be life-saving.

A heartfelt THANK YOU!!! all our wonderful volunteers for their outstanding work in the warehouse. Your time, energy and commitment make every delivery possible. We truly could not do this without you!

🌻If you would like to support us, please check our latest list of urgently needed items before donating. This helps us collect and send exactly what people need most.🌻

We warmly invite local residents, organisations and businesses to work with us. Whether you can donate essential supplies, volunteer your time, organise a collection or offer practical support, every contribution makes a real difference.

💙💛 OCCUPIED / UNOCCUPIED — Stories Behind the Photographs 🇺🇦📷

What a wonderful evening yesterday at the Museum of East Dorset in Wimborne !
Ukrainian photographer Iryna Sozanska shared the powerful personal stories behind her Occupied / Unoccupied exhibition, documenting life under Russian occupation and rebuilding life in the UK.

The event was very well attended, with thoughtful questions, great conversations and lots of support for Ukraine.❤️

We are very grateful that Ukraine Relief was the charity supported by the event, with funds raised during the evening. 💙💛

A huge thank you to Iryna, the Museum of East Dorset, everyone who attended and donated. Maurice for speaking on behalf of Ukraine Relief and charity representative Inna Nyky, Gillian Pearson and Leo Passi 👏🇺🇦

To Every Humanitarian — With Gratitude

On World Humanitarian Day, I want to send my deepest respect, gratitude, and love to every member of Ukraine Relief, and to every volunteer and humanitarian organisation around the world whose hands and hearts are devoted to helping others.

Humanitarian work is more than delivering food, medicine, clothing, or shelter.

It is delivering hope.

Every time you enter a place others are fleeing from, every time you comfort someone who has lost everything, every time you hold a frightened hand, deliver a box of aid, drive another mile, or simply tell someone “You are not alone” — you become a ray of hope for someone searching for a light to survive.

Sometimes you may never know the difference you have made.

You may never see what happens after you leave.

But somewhere, a child sleeps a little safer because you came.
A mother has food for her family because you cared.
An elderly person feels forgotten no longer because you stopped and listened.
And someone facing their darkest hour finds the strength to continue because a humanitarian showed them that humanity still exists.

To our incredible Ukraine Relief family, I could not be more proud of what we have achieved together. You have shown that ordinary people, united by compassion, can do extraordinary things.

And to our friends and colleagues across all humanitarian organisations, regardless of the flag, uniform, charity, country, faith, or language you represent: we stand together in the same human family.

We also remember those humanitarian workers and volunteers who made the ultimate sacrifice while helping others.

They went toward suffering when others had to run from it.
They gave hope until their final moments.
They will not be forgotten.

So today, I simply want to say:

Thank you.

Thank you for your courage.
Thank you for your compassion.
Thank you for every mile travelled, every sleepless night, every tear wiped away, and every life touched.

When the world becomes dark, you carry the light.

When people lose hope, you remind them that someone still cares.

And as long as there are people willing to stand beside a stranger in their hour of need, there will always be hope for humanity.

Keep carrying that light.
The world needs it more than ever.

With enormous pride, gratitude, and respect,

" The Captain " Karol Swiacki
