Help from Bournemouth to Ukraine turns international to become Ukraine Relief

Following overwhelming support from Bournemouth residents and businesses, Help from Bournemouth to Ukraine has grown to receive national and international support from the whole of the UK, Europe, Canada and the USA. The momentous shift in support has inspired the charity to change its name to Ukraine Relief to become a

n ‘international army of hope’. Launched in February 2022 by Karol Swiacki, the group quickly gathered support as residents of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole donated items, time, and money to help the hundreds of thousands who have been forced to leave their homes and belongings to flee the conflict in Ukraine. What started as a small group of 100 volunteers in Bournemouth has now become an organised international network, with hubs across the south of England, Poland and Ukraine. Karol Swiacki comments: “What makes us so effective is our ability to get urgent aid directly to where it is most needed. For those looking for a way to support the Ukrainian people, we have a logistics network running directly from our hubs in the UK all the way to eastern Ukraine.”

Karol adds: “This started as a small group of volunteers with massive support from the people of Bournemouth and the surrounding areas. It’s now grown into something international, we’ve been overwhelmed by people’s generosity, and by how quickly this has grown. We really want to thank the community in Bournemouth, as without them, we wouldn’t have gotten to where we are now, it all started with their support.” Ukraine Relief’s mission is to be the UK’s most effective Ukrainian relief effort and to ensure the maximum impact for every item and every pound donated. From logistical to financial to material contributions, Ukraine Relief welcomes a wide range of support from businesses and the public.

“We are now asking businesses and individuals looking to make a real difference on the ground in Ukraine to contact us – whether you can donate money or goods, we can get essential supplies directly to where they are needed the most,” says Karol. “Our partners in Ukraine, including city mayors, local authorities and charities, are regularly updating us on the latest items and support required.” Karol continues “From clothing, food and toiletries, all the way through to communications and medical equipment. Financial donations allow us to source essential supplies and provide direct support. Our impact depends on getting what people really need to them as quickly as we can, and people’s generous contributions are helping us to do exactly that.”

“Every pound, every hour, every donation really does make a huge difference to the lives of those that have been torn apart by this awful war. We want the people of Ukraine to know that the UK is with them, we have not forgotten them.”

A heartfelt thank you to Cohort plc and Andy Thomis for this recognition and for supporting our mission to help those affected by the war in Ukraine. This acknowledgement strengthens our commitment to continue delivering vital humanitarian aid where it is needed most.

" While humanitarian organisations like ours serve and support civilians affected by war, companies in the defence sector such as Cohort help defend our future."

🏆 Ukraine Relief Aid Named Charity of the Year by Cohort plc 🏆

We are incredibly proud and honoured to share that Ukraine Relief Aid has been recognised as Charity of the Year by Cohort plc and awarded a generous donation of £20,000.

Our CEO Karol Swiacki , together with Trustee Alastair Young , members of our management team Steve Hancock and Annmarie Randall , and our Honourable Patron Richard Adlem MBE, were delighted to attend a wonderful evening in London celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Cohort plc.

🙏 Today, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone at Cohort plc, especially CEO Andy Thomis, for making the evening so special for our charity.

✨ The celebration took place in the magnificent Drapers' Hall, London, an absolutely outstanding venue that provided the perfect setting for such a memorable occasion. We are deeply grateful for the exceptional hospitality shown throughout the evening. From the warm welcome to the outstanding food and drinks, every detail reflected the generosity and professionalism of our hosts. It was truly an unforgettable experience for the entire Ukraine Relief Aid team.

Karol said:

"It is a great honour for Ukraine Relief Aid to be here and to accept this award from such incredible people during such serious times. I would like to thank not only Cohort for this recognition, but also the British people for their unwavering support for Ukraine.

This award is not just for our charity—it belongs to every volunteer, donor, partner, trustee and friend who has stood with us since the beginning. Together, we are making a real difference in the lives of those affected by this terrible war. Together, we are creating a better tomorrow.

As a Polish man standing before British people, I feel incredibly proud to be united with so many nations in defence of Ukraine and the values we all share—freedom, dignity and hope. The support we see from people across the United Kingdom, Poland, Ukraine, the United States, the Netherlands, Norway and many other countries shows that when we stand together, we are stronger than any challenge before us.

We are fighting for the future not only of Ukraine, but of the whole free world. While humanitarian organisations like ours serve and support civilians affected by war, companies in the defence sector such as Cohort help defend our shared future. Together, we stand for freedom."

💙💛 An official press release will follow in the coming days. Today, however, we would like to dedicate this achievement to our entire Ukraine Relief Aid family—our trustees, volunteers, partners, donors and friends across Great Britain, the United States, Poland, Ukraine, the Netherlands, Germany and Norway.

Trustee Alastair Young added:

"On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to thank Cohort plc for their generous award of £20,000 to Ukraine Relief Aid. These funds will support projects in Ukraine, including children's orphanages and schools, helping to alleviate some of the suffering caused by the war."

🤝 A special thank you to our valued partner Castlepoint Shopping Park Bournemouth, for their continued support and friendship, as well as everyone from BCP Council and The Mayor of Bournemouth & The Charter Trustees !

This award belongs to every person who has stood with us on this journey.

We will never give up.

Together for a better tomorrow.

Together for freedom. 🇺🇦🇬🇧🇵🇱🇺🇸🇳🇱🇳🇴🇩🇪

💙💛Amazing Teamwork at Ukraine Relief Castlepoint Hub💙💛

Another truck has been loaded and is on its way to Ukraine, filled with medical equipment, family essentials, food, paint for a renovation as part of a joint project with Harwich Ukraine Support Project and Brewers, and many other much-needed aid items. 💙💛. 💙💛

Everything was packed and loaded at our Bournemouth Castlepoint Hub, and once again, it was amazing to see such fantastic Army of Hope, teamwork. We are so lucky to have such a great team working hard behind the scenes, sorting, packing, organising, and loading everything with so much care.🚛🚛🚛

Thank you also to all the people, businesses, and companies who continue to support us. Every donation, every offer of help, and every kind gesture means so much.

As always, a very special thank you to Castlepoint Shopping Park for helping us with the forklift driver and everything needed to get the truck loaded safely. This time, one of the forklift drivers helped load his very first truck for us — and he did a fantastic job!🙂

It was a truly special weekend in Edinburgh — filled with emotion, strength, and incredible people. ❤️

We are beyond proud of everyone who took part in the Edinburgh Marathon and Half Marathon in support of the Children Are the Future project.

🏃‍♂️ 5 runners completed the Marathon, including members of Mrs Emily Maw’s family.
🏃‍♂️ 9 amazing runners took part in the Half Marathon: Karol Swiacki , Alastair Young Rick Mabe , Niall, Mike, Robert, Nick, Andy, and Dean.

Together, we have raised over £10,000 for children who need hope, support, and a future in Ukraine.

This weekend showed the true power of community — energy, passion, commitment, and big hearts coming together to help others. Every mile carried meaning. Every step made a difference.

From the bottom of our hearts — thank you.
We are proud to see the Ukraine Relief Running Club growing stronger and continuing to inspire through action and compassion.

And this is only the beginning.
Another Marathon and Half Marathon will be announced soon.
