Help from Bournemouth to Ukraine turns international to become Ukraine Relief

Following overwhelming support from Bournemouth residents and businesses, Help from Bournemouth to Ukraine has grown to receive national and international support from the whole of the UK, Europe, Canada and the USA. The momentous shift in support has inspired the charity to change its name to Ukraine Relief to become an ‘international army of hope’. Launched in February 2022 by Karol Swiacki, the group quickly gathered support as residents of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole donated items, time, and money to help the hundreds of thousands who have been forced to leave their homes and belongings to flee the conflict in Ukraine. What started as a small group of 100 volunteers in Bournemouth has now become an organised international network, with hubs across the south of England, Poland and Ukraine. Karol Swiacki comments: “What makes us so effective is our ability to get urgent aid directly to where it is most needed. For those looking for a way to support the Ukrainian people, we have a logistics network running directly from our hubs in the UK all the way to eastern Ukraine.”

Karol adds: “This started as a small group of volunteers with massive support from the people of Bournemouth and the surrounding areas. It’s now grown into something international, we’ve been overwhelmed by people’s generosity, and by how quickly this has grown. We really want to thank the community in Bournemouth, as without them, we wouldn’t have gotten to where we are now, it all started with their support.” Ukraine Relief’s mission is to be the UK’s most effective Ukrainian relief effort and to ensure the maximum impact for every item and every pound donated. From logistical to financial to material contributions, Ukraine Relief welcomes a wide range of support from businesses and the public.

“We are now asking businesses and individuals looking to make a real difference on the ground in Ukraine to contact us – whether you can donate money or goods, we can get essential supplies directly to where they are needed the most,” says Karol. “Our partners in Ukraine, including city mayors, local authorities and charities, are regularly updating us on the latest items and support required.” Karol continues “From clothing, food and toiletries, all the way through to communications and medical equipment. Financial donations allow us to source essential supplies and provide direct support. Our impact depends on getting what people really need to them as quickly as we can, and people’s generous contributions are helping us to do exactly that.”

💙💛 Together for a Better Tomorrow – Making a Difference in Ukraine! 🇺🇦

Today, Ukraine Relief visited two hospitals in the Zhytomyr region, where we are helping to improve healthcare through the delivery of vital medical equipment and support for hospital renovations.

Our first visit was to Zhytomyr Main Hospital, where we had the pleasure of meeting Alexander and Vitalii, who kindly showed us around the hospital, including the units currently undergoing renovation.

It was wonderful to see the progress being made and, most importantly, to see how medical equipment delivered by Ukraine Relief a few months ago is already making a real difference.

Our second visit took us to Korostyshiv Regional Hospital, where we had the pleasure of meeting Nadia, the Hospital Director, and Tania from the Town Council.

Both expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Ukraine Relief for our continued support of their hospital, their town, and the people who need our help. ❤️

It was an incredibly rewarding moment to see how the medical equipment donated by Peter Mortin / Emma Vic and team with London NHS / Chris.

Limbcare UK / James Callender and many other generous donors is now making a real difference in the lives of patients.

Since Ukraine Relief was founded, we have supported hospitals across Ukraine, including in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Kherson, Odesa, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr, and many other cities and communities.

From delivering essential medical equipment to helping renovate hospital facilities, our mission is to give doctors and nurses better conditions in which to work and patients the care and dignity they deserve.

Every hospital we support means more patients receiving care, more medical professionals having the equipment they need, and more lives being given a chance.

To our volunteers, donors, logistics partners, supporters, and friends around the world — please never underestimate the difference you are making.

You may be thousands of miles away, but your kindness is reaching hospital beds, doctors, nurses, children, and families across Ukraine.

United to Help runs its mission at every level like a well-oiled machine. But behind this incredible Chain of Hope are extraordinary people who have found something truly special in helping others, often complete strangers, people they may never meet.

🌻While in Ukraine, Karol Swiacki and Adam stopped by a place very close to our hearts, the orphanage in Dnipro.

We wanted to share this little video with you all, especially John and our friends from the Rotary International, who have been waiting for it!

It's so lovely to see this place again, and all of us at Ukraine Relief, are really happy that we're still working together and finding ways to keep helping.

❤️ One photograph tells one story… but what happens when one photograph tells a thousand stories?

While Karol Swiacki arol and Adam continue Ukraine Relief’s humanitarian mission on the ground in Ukraine, Daria Swiack was proudly representing Ukraine Relief in London.

Ukraine Relief had the honour of attending “Lullaby in the Embrace of War”, a deeply moving photography exhibition at the UK Parliament

Created by the incredibly talented Maryana Bodnar, an award-winning photographer, soprano and soloist of the Kyiv Operetta Theatre, this deeply moving exhibition is a powerful reflection of the human stories behind the war. It pays a heartfelt tribute to Ukrainian mothers , their unconditional love, unimaginable loss, extraordinary courage and unbreakable hope.

The exhibition was opened by Alex Sobel MP, whose heartfelt speech highlighted the realities Ukrainians continue to face and the importance of standing with Ukraine.

❤️ One of the most emotional moments was Ira Rapiy 's powerful speech, sharing the touching story of a Ukrainian. Her words reminded us why these stories must never be forgotten.

🙏 A heartfelt thank you to Ira Rapiy for the kind invitation and for her dedication to bringing Ukrainian stories to the heart of the British Parliament.

💙 BUCHA( Bucza), UKRAINE, WE CANNOT AND MUST NOT FORGET!💛

Karol Swiacki has shared a deeply emotional message following his visit to Bucha with Adam, where they witnessed reminders of the horrific atrocities committed against innocent people.

Thanks to their friendship with Alina, the former Deputy Mayor, Adam heard firsthand accounts of those tragic events. They also visited a church, where a priest showed them heartbreaking photographs documenting the suffering of the people of Bucha.

Later, they met with Yurii from Kyiv.

❤️ Karol wants to pass on a very special message to the entire Ukraine Relief, Army of Hope family.

Both Alina and Yurii asked him to express their heartfelt gratitude to every volunteer, donor, partner and supporter of Ukraine Relief for their courage, kindness and tireless efforts to help Ukraine, especially its children.

Karol said:

"You may not always see the people whose lives you are changing, but here in Ukraine, your kindness is felt, your efforts are recognised, and your support means more than words can express."

Their gratitude belongs to all of you! ❤️

We cannot change the past, but together we can save lives, rebuild hope and give children a brighter future.

💙💛 Every child deserves a safe childhood. Every family deserves warmth and light. 🇺🇦

Karol Swiacki and Adam visited another shelter kindergarten in Ukraine, a place where children can learn, play and feel safe underground.

💔 It is heartbreaking to think that a kindergarten has to be underground to protect innocent children. It is simply unimaginable what human beings can do to one another. No child should have to grow up in fear.

Thanks to Ольга Богомолова and Ukraine Relief wonderful collaboration with her, we are able to support places like this, bringing hope, safety and a little bit of normality to children who deserve a peaceful childhood.

🎶 Music Cannot Be Silenced 🇺🇦💙💛

This video shows a deeply moving performance by the Zaporozhian Philharmonic artists in Ukraine, where artists are forced to perform underground for their safety.

Karol Swiacki and Adam had the honour of attending this very special performance and witnessing the incredible strength and spirit of Ukrainian culture firsthand.

Music belongs on stages, not in shelters. It should be heard, shared, and celebrated freely.

Music and culture shape generations, preserve identity, and bring people together. Even in the darkest times, they give people strength, hope, and a reason to keep going.

Buildings can be destroyed, but the spirit and culture of a nation cannot be silenced.

Dedicated to our Ukrainian friends, because these songs are more than music. They are their history, identity, and soul. 💙💛🇺🇦
