πŸ₯’πŸ₯¦πŸ«‘A huge thank you to Rutland Road AllotmentsπŸ«‘πŸ₯¦πŸ₯’

They are kindly offering to share any surplus with The Pantry.
They have set up a donation shed and everything 😁

And an extra BIG shoutout to Cheryl for pulling it all together πŸ™ πŸ™

Our first donation arrived on Friday and honestly, the sight of real soil on those veggies made our whole day.

That's what community looks like!

Shared with We Are Humans, Vision and Unity, The Garden Rooms CafΓ©, Bournemouth Recycle, Joy CafΓ© and Overcomers Outreach.

A MASSIVE thank you to each of these brilliant projects for coming to collect and helping this food reach more people across our community πŸ₯•πŸ₯¦πŸŽπŸ₯πŸž

AND a special shout‑out to We Are Humans for gifting us a big water container and cups for our hydration station πŸ™ helping us keep people cool while they wait.

πŸ’œ Vegetable of the Month is Beetroot!

Check this out πŸ‘‡ πŸ‘‡ πŸ‘‡

Fresh from our Secret Garden beds, these vibrant beets have been lovingly grown by our wonderful volunteers, picked and brought straight to The Pantry this morning.

Packed with folate, fibre and natural nitrates, beetroot helps boost stamina, support heart health and keep digestion happy.

Whether roasted, grated raw in salads or blended into a bright pink hummus, beetroot brings colour and goodness to every plate 🌸

A big thank you to Jonno, and our volunteers for braving the drizzle to harvest today’s bounty πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

🌿 Grounded Gatherers Balm Session 🌿

George guided the session this week to make medicinal balms.

Everyone had homework to bring in some dried foraged items so we could all learn together how to make our first batch of Grounded Balm.

It went brilliantly πŸ₯³πŸ₯³
The smell was unreal, like sweet lavender shortbread all through the room.

We infused olive oil with lemon balm, plantain, lavender and meadowsweet.
And in true Gatherers style we also threw in a couple of marigolds and daisies because they were right there and looking cheerful. They do need to be dried to prevent mould.

πŸ‘‰ It was also our lovely Bel’s last session before she moves πŸ₯°πŸ₯°
A big THANK YOU to Bel for all her contribution and friendship.
She has supported this group and shared so much of her knowledge on our foraging walks.

She’s one of those people who makes everything better just by being part of it. She will be missed so much πŸ™πŸ™

5️⃣0️⃣ tins later and we had a table full of balm made by the group.
Proper team effort from everyone who came along.

If you want to learn along with us and join the Gatherers WhatsApp group, PM this page ✨🌿

🍍 MAY AT THE PANTRY 🍊

As it's Volunteer Week, we wanted to share what was achieved at The Pantry during May and recognise the incredible team of volunteers who make it all possible. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

πŸ“¦ Food rescued
We brought in 5,676.4kg of food during May.

That's over 5.6 tonnes of food saved from going to waste and redistributed back into our community.

🍏 Food shared
2,619.7kg went directly to our Open Table and Free Food Foyer, ensuring good food reached local people instead of landfill.

🏠 The Pantry support
Across the month we supported:
πŸ’š 325 Pantry shops (including our volunteers shops)
πŸ‘¨πŸ‘© 373 adults, πŸ‘§πŸ‘¦146 children, a total of 132 households (not including our volunteers)

Every number represents people in our community accessing affordable food and support when they need it πŸ™ πŸ™

πŸ‘Š πŸ‘Š πŸ‘Š Volunteer power πŸ‘Š πŸ‘Š πŸ‘Š

We thought you may be interested in seeing how many volunteers and how much volunteer time it takes to run The Pantry 7 days a week πŸ‘‡ πŸ‘‡ πŸ‘‡

May took around 696 volunteer hours across 244 volunteer shifts.

We had 46 regular volunteers holding the fort, supported by a brilliant group of ad hoc helpers.

Whether collecting surplus food, sorting donations, running Open Table, welcoming the community, driving, cleaning, organising or helping behind the scenes, volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.

As we celebrate Volunteer Week, we'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to every person who has given their time to support The Pantry πŸ™Œ

Together you're helping reduce food waste, support local households and strengthen our community. πŸ₯πŸžπŸ₯¨πŸ«πŸŠπŸ₯•πŸπŸŒπŸ₯πŸπŸ“πŸ‹β€πŸŸ©
