The Dorset Children's Foundation

The Dorset Children's Foundation The DCF founded in 2013, a small, independent charity created to enhance the lives of disabled kids

The DCF was founded in 2013 and is a small, independent charity created to enhance the lives of local disabled children and their families. We provide our Accessible for All programme of play and sports activities, Mental Health Counselling services for our families and fund support groups and Stay and Play sessions that help bring families of disabled children together. We also have a variety of

special needs equipment that can be loaned out to families and in some cases, we provide funding for vital equipment. In addition we support educational workshops on disability to help raise awareness amongst the younger generations and work towards building a more inclusive society. Each year the DCF grant at least one family the opportunity to visit Give Kids the World, a magical holiday resort in Florida, to create special memories that will last longer than a lifetime. Our charity shops in Bournemouth cover our modest overheads so that every single penny donated goes directly to the children. The Dorset Children’s Foundation – Big enough to make a difference, small enough to care.

💙 Despite the weather doing its best to rain on the parade, spirits were sky-high at the Lady Captain’s Day at Broadstone Golf Club!

The ladies embraced the fun by dressing up as ABBA, welcomed us in for tea, and made the day incredibly special. We’re delighted to share that they raised an amazing **£190** for The Dorset Children’s Foundation.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for your warmth, generosity, and support. Your fundraising helps us continue providing life-changing opportunities and experiences for disabled children and their families across Dorset.

Thank you for having us – and for proving that a little rain can't dampen community spirit! 💙⛳🎶

Wow! 🤩💪🌈🏖️ yesterday our amazing ADVENTURE BUDDIES did a sponsored rainbow walk/push from Boscombe to Bournemouth pier and back! These children are our medically complex young people and the funds raised will go directly to providing accessible activities and opportunities for the group! We are so proud of everyone involved and so grateful to all who donated! The link below explains the mission and gives anyone a chance to donate if they wish! What an achievement 😁☀️

Two weeks ago, we set off on our 5th annual family residential at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre, and what an incredible weekend it was! 💙

Eleven families from across Dorset came together to enjoy a weekend packed with adventure, laughter, friendship and memory-making in the beautiful woodland surroundings of the New Forest.

These weekends are always so special. Children and young people with a wide range of disabilities have the opportunity to try exciting, accessible activities that they may never have imagined possible. Parents and carers get the chance to relax, connect with others who truly understand their journey, and share stories around the campfire.

Meanwhile, siblings – many of whom take on caring responsibilities at home – spend the weekend simply being children. They play, explore, make new friends and build lasting friendships with others who understand their lives.

From campfire chats and woodland adventures to dancing, delicious food and plenty of laughter, every moment reminds us why these weekends matter so much. They create opportunities, build confidence, reduce isolation and, most importantly, bring families together.

Thanks go to SB Community Support, Burton Scouts, Asda, Gabe Kissinlight, Avon Tyrrell, Comotion Dance and Poole Bay Holdings Ltd who all contributed in one way or another, to help make it happen ✨️

💙 Happy Volunteers' Week! 💙

This week we want to say a huge THANK YOU to every single person who gives their time, skills, energy and kindness to support Dorset Children's Foundation.

Whether you help at events, volunteer in our shops, support fundraising activities, assist behind the scenes, offer professional expertise, or simply step in whenever an extra pair of hands is needed – you are making a real difference to local children and young people with disabilities and their families.

As a small charity, we simply couldn't do what we do without the support of our volunteers. Every hour given helps create opportunities, friendships, adventures and memories for the families we support.

To all of our volunteers, past and present, thank you for being part of the DCF family. Your generosity, compassion and dedication are truly appreciated. 💙

If you've ever thought about volunteering, we'd love to hear from you. We have a variety of opportunities available, from helping at events and fundraising activities to supporting our shops and community projects. Whatever time you can spare, we'd love to welcome you to the team.

We had the perfect weather for our accessible bike ride in the new forest this morning.

The children we support have a wide range of disabilities so its great to find another organisation commited to providing fully accessible activities. Pedall - New Forest Inclusive Cycling have bikes to suit everyone and we love these special bike rides through the beautiful forest surroundings.

We have more bike rides planned throughout the summer. If you would like to donate to our Accessible for All programme so that we can continue to provide opportunities like these, please see link below. Every penny we receive in donations is used to support a local with disabilities

Yesterday we had a fab golf session at Ferndown Forest Golf Club with our friend Coaches Golf

All of the young people attending have a range of disabilities from mild to moderate ASD and physical balance/coordination problems making activities like this quite tricky. All of them really put the effort in though and their determination and concentration always pays off. We are very grateful to Deej for always having such patience and knowing exactly how to work with the children we support.
