☀️ We’re expecting beautiful weather this weekend and we hope lots of people come and visit us here in Beaumaris and enjoy the Menai Strait! ☀️

👉 If you’re thinking about doing some cold water swimming here’s Hope with our Top Tips to keep you safe!

🏊‍♀️ Never swim alone and always tell someone where you’re going.

🏊‍♀️ Check the weather and tides.

🏊‍♀️ Consider using a tow float and wear brightly coloured clothes.

🏊‍♀️ Acclimatise yourself to the water by entering slowly.

🏊‍♀️ Carry a means for falling for help!

And as always if you find yourself in difficulty in the water 🛟 Stay calm, extend your arms and legs and float until you can control your breathing, then shout for help or swim to safety 🛟

"The whole team at Beaumaris".
My best memory:
"A long, difficult night shout turning into an early morning shout, but the boat getting back just as the bakery opened and us all having breakfast together".

“I grew up in Mousehole and I knew the Penlee Lifeboat well. I wanted to use my spare time to help the RNLI”.

“I’m also a Mountain Leader and on Search & Rescue”.

Having a good relationship with other agencies along the Menai Strait and beyond is super important and forms a big part of what we do! After all, ‘Team Work Makes The Dream Work’! 💪 So it’s great when we get to share moments like this; boat still, engines off and SMIIIIIIIIIILE 😃

👋 MEET THE CREW MONDAY👋

RNLI role: Boat crew, Shore crew and Trainee Navigator

Why I joined the RNLI:
“After finishing studying at Bangor university, I wanted to stay in north Wales and become part of the local community. I sailed from, and worked at, the local yacht club and knew I’d enjoy working alongside some of the members as crew whilst developing important skills”.

My favourite thing about being on the crew:
“It’s great to be part of something meaningful and help those in need. Our crew have a wide range of backgrounds, which can contribute to a positive outcome by drawing upon different experiences and strengths”.

My best memory:
“I’ve had so many positive experiences, it’s difficult to choose. I really enjoyed casualty care training exercises onboard local wildlife vessels (Seacoast Safaris - Puffin Island Cruises & Boat tours) and the Bangor University vessel, RV Prince Madog. These scenarios include triage and first aid, fires, engine failure and sinking and are great opportunities for training (and a bit of acting amongst the crew too!)”.
