Heartburn Cancer UK

Heartburn Cancer UK At HCUK we raise awareness of the link between persistent heartburn, oesophageal cancer and a related condition called Barrett's oesophagus.

We encourage sufferers of persistent heartburn to seek medical advice early - because doing so may save lives. Heartburn Cancer UK Terms and Conditions - https://www.heartburncanceruk.org/terms-and-conditions

🧡 What a fantastic morning we had last Friday with BBC Wiltshire and The Wake Up Call team at Chippenham Pit Stop

We were delighted to be part of such a brilliant community event, speaking to truck drivers and members of the public about persistent heartburn, acid reflux and the link to oesophageal cancer. Raising awareness in places like this is so important, particularly amongst groups who may be at higher risk or less likely to seek help early.

Alongside us were NHS nurses, health coaches and healthcare teams offering blood pressure checks, health advice and wellbeing support throughout the morning.

A huge thank you to David, Managing Director of Chippenham Pit Stop, and Lucy, Marketing Manager, for hosting such a welcoming and well-organised event.

It was also wonderful to work alongside so many fantastic organisations and individuals including Matthew from BBC Radio Wiltshire, Andrew from Xyla - Healthcare Services, Damion from the Wiltshire Health Hub, OGD Nurse Steve, Louise from the BSW Diabetic Eye Screening Programme and Jo from NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire ICB.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to chat with us. 🧡

⛳ Love golf and want to support Heartburn Cancer UK?

The Mike Meech Golf Day is being organised by Mike’s friends in memory of his life, and is bringing together golf enthusiasts, family, friends and colleagues for a special day of fundraising and remembrance.

Mike was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer at just 46 years old and inspired many people through his positivity, openness and determination.

Sadly, Mike passed away in 2025 aged 49.

This event is an opportunity to remember Mike whilst continuing to raise awareness of persistent heartburn and oesophageal cancer, and funds raised will support the work of Heartburn Cancer UK. 🧡

There's still time to enter a team:

📅 Thursday 2nd July 2026
📍 Hamptworth Golf and Country Club, Salisbury

Whether you’re entering a team or simply sharing the event, your support really does make a difference.

🧡 This week is Carers Week 🧡

A time to recognise and thank the millions of carers who provide support, comfort and care to loved ones every single day.

For many people affected by oesophageal cancer, carers are the quiet strength beside them through appointments, treatment, recovery and the challenges that cancer can bring. Their compassion, patience and dedication often go unseen, but their impact is immeasurable.

Caring for someone with cancer can be physically and emotionally demanding, and Carers Week is an important opportunity to acknowledge the vital role carers play every day. 🧡

🧡 Today is National Cancer Survivors Day 🧡

Today we celebrate and honour everyone living with and beyond cancer. Every cancer journey is unique, and behind every survivor is a story of strength, resilience, courage and hope.

At Heartburn Cancer UK, we also recognise that the impact of cancer can continue long after treatment ends - physically, emotionally and mentally - and we send our support to all those navigating life after an oesophageal cancer diagnosis.

Today is also an important reminder of why awareness and earlier diagnosis matter so much.

We’re sharing this powerful video from oesophageal cancer patient Sam Brandon, who speaks openly about what gave him hope during some of the most difficult moments of his cancer journey.

🧡To all cancer survivors - today we celebrate your strength, courage and resilience.

🧡 Huge congratulations to Richard H***e on completing his triathlon today! 👏

Taking on a triathlon is an incredible achievement at the best of times - especially after more than ten years away from the sport - and we are so grateful that Richard chose to support Heartburn Cancer UK alongside the MND Association.

Richard is fundraising in support of causes that have personally touched the lives of family and friends, helping to raise awareness, fund support services and improve outcomes for others facing these devastating diseases.

Thank you, Richard, for your determination, kindness and support. We hope you’re enjoying a very well-earned rest this evening! 🧡

🧡 Good luck to Donna and Kath today! 🧡

After previously fundraising for Heartburn Cancer UK with a charity walk, Donna Pulman, her mum Kath Thorp, and friends, are once again taking on another challenge in support of our work.

Today they’ll be completing a 10-mile hike across the challenging terrain of the Holme Valley as part of the ‘What a Bunch of Walkers’ annual event.

Donna is fundraising for Heartburn Cancer UK via The Clara Dixon Trust, which raises funds in memory of Clara Dixon, who was sadly taken too soon by oesophageal cancer.

Donna is helping raise awareness that oesophageal cancer symptoms can sometimes be mistaken for persistent heartburn or reflux, particularly in women.

We are so grateful for their continued support, determination and fundraising efforts. Wishing them both the very best for today’s walk! 👏🧡
