Volunteering in Zanzibar

Final few days of volunteering in Zanzibar and I have had the best time.
Some local children came to our camp where I read them some books and taught them new English words. 📚

I learnt how to collect and plant mangroves for the local women in the town. We had to pick the seeds from the plants and then make sand pots to plant the different types of mangroves. 🪴

One of the little girls drew a photo for me and wrote “Sophie and Humayra” (her name)

I have been in Zanzibar for a week and have supported the culture in many ways.
We do regular village clean ups of litter and have collected 40kg this week.
We have completed multiple sunrise walks to look out for endangered sea turtles.
I have completed Eco snorkelling where we dived down and identified different fish and corals and learnt how to identify whether the corals have been “bleached”.

I arrived in Zanzibar on Wednesday 3rd December to volunteer and help save marine life.
So far I have collected 20kg of litter off the beach, taught a local school about the importance of recycling and observed how people treat the dolphins (with how many boats circle and trap dolphins habitats.)
It has been an amazing experience so far and I can’t wait to help Zanzibars marine life even more.
