Southern Ceramic Group

Southern Ceramic Group We welcome potters, sculptors and ceramicists in Hampshire, Sussex, Dorset, and the surrounding UK Counties.

The Southern Ceramic Group consists of more than 170 enthusiastic ceramicists who live and work in the south of England and share a passion for creating in clay. The growing group of members are as diverse as the objects they create. Some have spent a lifetime perfecting their craft while others have come to it only recently, after careers ranging from engineering to medicine to dance and teaching

. Each year the SCG hosts exhibitions for work to be viewed and sold, demonstrations from celebrated ceramic artists, group gatherings on techniques and topics of interest such as glazing. Members also have access to a regularly produced newsletter, discounts from suppliers and have the opportunity to promote their work via the group's website Gallery. If you are keen to meet fellow potters and join our friendly group, please visit https://www.southernceramicgroup.org.uk/join/

My work is inspired by the people who lived and worked alongside the River Thames. I love the aged patina created by the smoke firing techniques I use for my pieces.

Anton Page is at the OXMARKET Contemporary Gallery.

Abstract "flame" form sculpted from heavily textured clay, finished with oxides and wood ash.

A potter for some 40 years, Anton works with heavily grogged clays like crank and raku, embracing their raw, gritty surfaces and finishing them with oxides, wood ash, metal powders, and even road salt—materials that echo the natural forces of erosion and age. Occasionally, a splash of glaze or a touch of coloured glass or gold leaf punctuates the surface, offering contrast and elevating the piece into something bold and unexpected.

Steph Edwards at the OXMARKET Chichester.

“A piece for the garden. Steph deploys various surface treatments, additions and combustible materials to recreate something that may have spent many years outside being weathered by the environment. This item is frost-proof and can be left out all year round.”

OXMARKET Chichester

Alissa Knight ceramics are an exploration of memory, imagination, and cultural inheritance.
Based on her childhood spent in Russia, she celebrates energy, storytelling, texture, and colour. In her work she often combines
textured surfaces with oxides and glazes to create unexpected, playful results.
