This week’s Luncheon Club was certainly a colourful one as we got ready to support England, who played last night and secured a fantastic 4–2 victory over Croatia.

Our amazing volunteers didn’t disappoint either, proudly wearing the national red and white colours while serving and supporting 51 of our members.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious gammon dinner followed by pie and custard or ice cream, with refreshments and mini cakes also served throughout the afternoon.

The afternoon wouldn’t have been complete without our weekly game of Barry’s Bingo, which once again brought plenty of fun, laughter, and excitement for all involved. A few red cards also had to be issued during the afternoon, but thankfully it was all part of the fun and kept everyone smiling! ⚽🟥😊

The volunteers prepared and served a delicious cooked lunch at the luncheon club for our respected local elders.

It was also a wonderful surprise for me, as I was presented with gifts and received warm applause in recognition of my dedication and commitment to ensuring that both the luncheon club and the pensioners’ centre continue to thrive for the benefit of our elders and the wider local community.

However, none of this would be possible without my fabulous team, who work tirelessly week after week to support me. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, past and present, whose hard work, kindness, and dedication have helped shape this wonderful pensioners’ centre into what it is today. Your contribution has made a real difference to so many lives, and I applaud each and every one of you. 👏👏👏👏

The remainder of the afternoon was spent enjoying a lively game of Play Your Cards Right and several rounds of prize bingo, bringing fun, laughter, friendship, and companionship to all who attended. It was another lovely afternoon filled with smiles, community spirit, and cherished memories. ❤️

Celebrating Volunteers’ Week at Astley Pensioners Centre

Today at Astley Pensioners Centre, we proudly celebrated Volunteers’ Week, recognising the incredible people who give their time, energy, and talents to support our community.

Our respected elders showed their appreciation, and Debra presented each volunteer with a small gift as a heartfelt thank you for their continued commitment and dedication.

We are grateful for the enthusiasm, creativity, kindness, support, and fun-loving spirit that our volunteers bring each week. Their warm and welcoming nature helps make our Luncheon Club such a popular and enjoyable place for everyone.

A sincere thank you to all our volunteers. Your generosity and friendship make a real difference, and we are truly fortunate to have you as part of the Astley Pensioners Centre family.

Happy Volunteers’ Week! 🎉💐👏

Thank you to Jo Bennett for creating the beautiful summer wreaths that are now on display in the centre, to Ann at Tyldesley Little Chippie for providing today’s tasty lunch of fish and chips, to Joyce (respected elder) who baked and presented everyone with a tasty creamed scone, to Joy (volunteer) who also baked more delicious cakes for our volunteers to enjoy and to Johnny Norton who belted out some great tunes this afternoon. And, as always we couldn’t end the afternoon without playing a fun game of Barry’s bingo 👍🏻😃

Volunteers’ Week – 1st–7th June

The Astley Pensioners are proud to celebrate and recognise the incredible work of our volunteers, whose dedication helps keep our centre open and thriving for the local community.

Our volunteers contribute in so many ways, including maintaining the building and finances, managing room bookings, organising special events, shopping for supplies, preparing and serving food, setting up rooms, serving approximately 50 meals every Wednesday for our valued elders at the weekly Luncheon Club, arranging weekly transport, organising days out and entertainment, attending meetings, and taking care of the countless little jobs that often go unnoticed.

We simply couldn’t do it without the help and support of:

* Debra Jones
* Jayne Sweeney
* Sheldon Jones
* Lisa Smith
* Janice Lister
* Karen Smallman
* Joy Owen
* Gillian Powell
* Rachel Gosden
* Hazel White
* Barry Taylor
* Diane Lomas
* Christine Howells
* Lynsey Baker
* Irene Done

A huge thank you to our amazing team of volunteers for the time, kindness, care, and commitment they continually give to our local community. Their hard work makes a real difference, and we appreciate each and every one of you more than words can express.

Happy Volunteers’ Week, and thank you for everything you do! ❤️

On Wednesday 3 June we will be celebrating National Volunteers Week at the luncheon club. So our volunteers will be able to sit down and enjoy our respected elders company as we will all be able to enjoy a chippy dinner which will be provided by ‘the little chippy’ in Tyldesley 😋

Instead of the traditional national volunteers colours we will be wearing vibrant colours and setting a seaside theme (fish n chips by the sea) 👍🏻😃

So if anyone has any beach type toys, bucket and spades etc which we can borrow for the day that would be much appreciated. Send a message if you can help to Debra Jones or Lisa Smith, thank you x

Beautiful weather, a beautiful crowd, and a delicious hot meal enjoyed on a very warm day ☀️🍽️

As it’s the end of the month, we also celebrated all of those who had birthdays in May 🎉 What better way to mark the occasion than with a lovely slice of homemade cake made by our cake maker queen, Joy 🍰😃

We then enjoyed a game of Play Your Cards Right, which lasted a little longer than expected 🤣 (with three lucky winners taking home a small prize each) 👍🏻😃

We finished off the afternoon with our weekly prize bingo, with Lisa doing a fantastic job in Barry’s absence 👏👏👏
