🌟 Volunteer Spotlight – Rachel 🌟

As part of Volunteers’ Week, today we’re celebrating the wonderful Rachel and everything she brings to Merly’s Kitchen. 💚

Rachel is one of those people every organisation dreams of having on their team. She is an incredibly hard worker who is always willing to lend a hand, no matter what needs doing. Whether it’s a busy day in the tearoom, helping with community activities, or tackling the jobs that often go unnoticed, Rachel is always there, ready to help.

One of Rachel’s greatest qualities is her initiative. She doesn’t wait to be asked, she sees what needs doing and gets on with it. Her positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to help make a huge difference to both our team and the people we support.

Rachel also has a wonderful way of brightening up the team. Her friendly nature, sense of humour, and positive energy lift those around her and help make Merly’s Kitchen the welcoming place that it is. She brings warmth and kindness wherever she goes, and we’re so grateful to have her as part of our volunteer family.

As if that wasn’t enough, Rachel also gives her time to help at the Pensioners Centre, showing her commitment to supporting the wider community. She is also a familiar face at our craft groups, where she enjoys getting involved, encouraging others, and helping create the friendly and inclusive atmosphere that makes our community activities so special.

Rachel embodies everything that community is about, showing up, helping others, getting involved, and making people feel welcome. Her dedication, kindness, and generosity of spirit are an inspiration to us all.

Rachel, thank you for everything you do. Your hard work, positivity, and willingness to help never go unnoticed, and we are incredibly lucky to have you on our team. 💚

💚 Could you help make a difference too?

We’re always looking for new volunteers to join our growing team. Whether you can spare a few hours a week or a few hours a month, your time could make a real difference to someone in our community.

From helping in our tearoom and community projects to supporting events, food distribution, community groups, and activities, there are plenty of ways to get involved. No experience is necessary—just a willingness to help and be part of something special.

If you’d like to find out more about volunteering with Merly’s Kitchen CIC, send us a message or pop in for a chat. We’d love to hear from you. 💚

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight – Louise 🌟

As part of Volunteers' Week, we'd like to shine a spotlight on one of our amazing volunteers, Louise. 💚

Louise brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Merly's Kitchen, having enjoyed a fantastic career in catering and achieving a high level of professional qualifications throughout her career.

Her expertise is invaluable to us, but what makes Louise truly special is her willingness to share that knowledge with others. She is always happy to guide, support, and teach fellow volunteers, helping them build confidence and develop new skills. Her patience, encouragement, and leadership make a real difference to our team.

Louise somehow manages to fit volunteering at the tearoom into an already very busy life, and we are incredibly grateful that she chooses to spend some of her time with us. Whether she's helping in the kitchen, sharing her experience, or lending a hand wherever needed, she does it with warmth, kindness, and professionalism.

One thing everyone at Merly's Kitchen knows is that Louise can cook just about anything! Her creativity and skill in the kitchen are second to none, and she creates some truly amazing soups that our customers and volunteers look forward to. She has that special talent of turning simple ingredients into something delicious and comforting.

And of course, anyone who knows Louise will know that she brings a touch of glamour wherever she goes! Always beautifully presented, she brightens the tearoom with both her style and her smile.

Thank you, Louise, for everything you do for Merly's Kitchen and our community. We are so lucky to have you as part of our volunteer family. 💚

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Luke 🌟

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we’d like to celebrate the wonderful Luke, one of our talented volunteers at Merly’s Kitchen. 💚

Many of our visitors will know Luke from the beautiful harp music that fills our tearoom. His playing creates a calm and peaceful atmosphere, bringing moments of joy, reflection, and comfort to everyone who visits.

Luke is autistic and sometimes finds certain forms of communication challenging. However, music provides a powerful way for him to connect with others and express himself. Through his harp, Luke shares emotions, tells stories, and creates connections that words sometimes cannot.

Luke’s dream is to bring peace and joy to others through music. He uses the tearoom as a safe and supportive space to practise, develop his skills, and build his confidence as a performer. With every session, he grows in confidence and gains valuable experience that will help him share his music with other communities in the future.

Luke’s talents extend far beyond music. He is also a gifted artist whose work has become a special part of Merly’s Kitchen. Visitors may recognise the beautiful portrait of Merly displayed in our tearoom, as well as the stunning painting of Damhouse – both created by Luke. Through his artwork, just as with his harp playing, Luke shares his creativity, passion, and unique perspective with our community. We are incredibly proud to showcase his work and grateful for the lasting contribution he has made to our space. 🎨💚

One of the things we love most about Luke is his friendly nature. He is always happy to chat, welcome visitors, and share his passion for music with anyone who is interested. His determination, kindness, and dedication are an inspiration to us all.

At Merly’s Kitchen, we believe everyone has something valuable to offer, and Luke is a wonderful example of how talents can bring people together and make a real difference in the lives of others.

Thank you, Luke, for sharing your gift with us and for helping to make Merly’s Kitchen such a welcoming and uplifting place. We are incredibly proud to be part of your journey and can’t wait to see where your music takes you next. 💚

👏 Please join us in thanking Luke for everything he brings to our community.

🌟 Volunteers' Week 2026 🌟

This week, we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible volunteers who make Merly's Kitchen possible.

From serving customers in our tearoom, helping with food parcels and care packages, supporting our community groups, maintaining our allotment, collecting surplus food, stocking our community fridge, washing dishes, making brews, offering a listening ear, and everything in between – our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.

Every act of kindness, no matter how small it may seem, helps us create a stronger, more connected community. We simply couldn't do what we do without the generosity, dedication, and compassion of our volunteer team.

At Merly's Kitchen, we believe nobody should face hardship alone, and our volunteers help turn that belief into reality every single day. Whether it's providing practical support, creating welcoming spaces, reducing isolation, or simply making someone smile, our volunteers make a real difference every day.

Over the next week, we'll be shining a spotlight on some of the amazing people who give their time, skills, and energy to support our community. We hope you'll join us in celebrating them and thanking them for all they do.

💚 Could you be one of our future volunteers?

As we celebrate our current volunteer team, we're also looking for more people to join us. Whether you can spare a few hours a week or a few hours a month, there are lots of ways to get involved. No special experience is needed, just a willingness to help and be part of a supportive community.

Volunteering with Merly's Kitchen is a great way to meet new people, gain experience, build confidence, and make a genuine difference in the lives of others.

If you'd like to find out more about volunteering with us, please get in touch – we'd love to hear from you.

💚 From all of us at Merly's Kitchen CIC – thank you. Your kindness changes lives.
