We partner with communities to empower them and support informed decision-making for their development. Our programmes are divided into four overarching themes: Education and Capacity Enhancement (ECE), Natural Resource Management (NRM), Health Improvement (HI) and Internal Development (ID). All four programmes work to fulfill the following objectives:

1. To increase self reliance/ownership in ru

ral communities
2. To promote the protection of the environment
4. To sustain livelihoods
5. To manage interventions
6. To promote gender balance
7. To promote healthy living
8. To strengthen Infrastructural Development

We specialize in education, the environment, economic development and health improvement in detached rural communities of Fiji. We run projects right across both Viti and Vanua Levu as well as offshore islands.

πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡«πŸ‡―Strengthening Disaster Resilience in Lakeba | Disaster Resilience Programme

Today, we launched our community awareness programme on disaster risks and their impacts with the villages of Waitabu and Waciwaci in Lakeba. Our technical partners from the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources Fiji Seismology, the Fiji Meteorological Service and the Fiji NDMO delivered insightful presentations covering key aspects of disasters like earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, drought, flooding, La Nina & Elnino. Additionally their presentations included history of disasters, their impacts, and traditional knowledge that can empower communities to better prepare for future events.

At the same time, transect walks and hazard, vulnerability, and capacity mapping exercises began. These activities will provide valuable data and insights to support the upcoming community-based disaster risk management training scheduled to commence next week.

🌊Better Together for Oceans Conservation

PCDF recently participated in the OCEAN Grant CBFM Scaling Inception Workshop held at MAST Suva. It was an inspiring two days filled with shared learning, networking, and planning for the future of our community fisheries.

From discussions on training and social media to brainstorming how we can better support local communities, it was great to be in a room with so many passionate partners like the Ministry of Fisheries, Fiji, Ministry of itaukei Affairs and the Women in Fisheries Network- Fiji.

When we come together to share experiences, we build stronger connections that ultimately benefit the communities we serve. Vinaka vakalevu to cChange for facilitating such a meaningful workshop. We are excited for what’s ahead! πŸ™Œ

πŸ“Reflecting on Impact - Sharing Lessons | Voices of Value Project

PCDF recently had the privilege of participating in a reflection workshop hosted by Women's Fund Fiji where we engaged with fellow grantee partners to share the experiences and outcomes of our Voices of Value project.

Implemented in Nukuloa and Levuka-i-Gau villages on Gau Island, this project has been a powerful journey in community-led development. By centering the voices of community members, we have gained invaluable insights into the realities of women’s economic empowerment at village level.

We are grateful for this space to reflect on our learnings, identify what worked, and discuss how we can continue to strengthen our support for the communities we serve.

Strengthening resilience on the ground | Disaster Resilience Programme πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ€πŸ‡«πŸ‡―

Among the diverse community representatives who underwent our 4-day Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) training last week were 7 dedicated fire officers from the National Fire Authority (NFA) in Levuka.

By completing this comprehensive training, these officers have enhanced their disaster preparedness and response capabilities, paving the way for stronger collaboration with local communities to keep our villages safe and ready.

🌊 Building Climate & Disaster Resilience in LevukaπŸ‡«πŸ‡―| Disaster Resilience ProgrammeπŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ€πŸ‡«πŸ‡―

We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of a comprehensive 4-day Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) training for six target villages on Ovalau: Vuma, Waitovu, Draiba, Nasinu, Natokalau, and Tokou.

Thanks to a collaborative effort between PCDF, the Fiji NDMO, Fiji Seismology Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources and the Lomaiviti Provincial Offices Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management and Ministry of itaukei Affairs, these communities are now better equipped to face climate and disaster risks.

Over the 4 days, community members actively worked together to achieve major milestones;

πŸ—ΊοΈ Completed thorough hazard and risk assessments alongside community mapping exercises.

πŸ—£οΈ Shared History: Opened up and passed down vital stories, challenges, and past experiences of disaster and climate change impacts and participated in a social inclusion walk to ensure no one is left behind.

🀝Formalised Community Disaster Risk Management Committees (CDRMCs) to take ownership of local DRR and disaster response.

πŸ“‹ Developed tailored Disaster Action and Response plans, mapping out clear protocols for before, during, and after a disaster.

πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Conducted live simulation exercises tailored to the specific disaster threats the community face.

Vinaka vakalevu to our partners, community elders, women’s groups, and youth leaders for your dedication to creating safer, more resilient villages!

A huge Vinaka Vakalevu to the Australian Government for supporting this vital initiative through the πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ€πŸ‡«πŸ‡―
