GreenKayak is a non-profit initiative that aims to reduce waste in the blue element. The kayak is designed for two people and equipment is provided for collection and safety on the water. In exchange for a free trip with a GreenKayak, we expect a few tasks to be completed so that you use the kayak with its intended purpose. Therefore, a contract must be signed before the start of the trip so that

there is an understanding of the experience objectives. (1) On your trip, you must collect trash and later return and weigh it at the GreenKayak host. (2) We expect you to gather as much litter as possible on the trip. Trash can easily be found in many places in the harbour, if you don't find anything, search better. There are always hidden corners with trash. (3) We ask you to document the experience with photos or films and post them directly on social media. Tag us .ngo and use .

A father son adventure to remember…

They almost didn’t go because of the rainy weather, but the curiosity got the best of them. And they were so happy it did! The rain added to the still, peaceful atmosphere as they watched pond skaters skim the water’s surface, admired the flowers on the lily pads, and best of all, they spotted a great blue heron!🪽🤗

They fished out this big plastic chair! Bye bye
woulda-been microplastics!👋💺🎣

Their takeaway: “It was a wonderful way to just enjoy the moment, and a beautiful way to see Berlin from a different perspective - combining something enjoyable with something impactful.”🌟

“We’ll definitely be back. Once your rubbish radar is switched on, it’s hard to turn off!”

For the annual Citizen Day, we swapped kayaks for running sneakers 👟

Three teams took on two routes through Copenhagen with one mission: plogging (jogging + picking up trash, for the unfamiliar) 🏃‍♀️🗑️

They battled it out for most trash collected, and ( for the Strava stat-obsessed ) fastest pace. Bragging rights on the line.

The final result? 196.9 kilos of pollution off the streets and out of nature. 🙌

Huge thanks to the L’Oréal team who broke a sweat AND some trash-collecting records. Thanks for spending your Citizen Day with us!

One afternoon and 267 kg of trash later…🫪🤯🚮🌊🫧🛶

This week we hosted teens representing over 20 nationalities, in Copenhagen for their experience building week with Boston Consulting Group, and they went straight to work on the water and the land.

If anyone still thinks Gen Z doesn’t care, this is your sign to stop saying that! Because they certainly do and these kids show it!

This group hunted down every scrap of trash they could find, added a little friendly competition to keep it fun, had meaningful conversations around our environment, and turned their haul into actual art, including a World Cup trophy made entirely from what they pulled out of the canals🏆⚽️

It’s no wonder they are our Paddlers of the Week!👏

Thank you to every one of these kids for showing up and giving us hope for the future of our oceans🌊
