Across partner communities, school nutrition programs are growing alongside food forests, greenhouses, and community gardens — nourishing children today.
Meals prepared at school help reduce pressure on families facing some of the highest food costs in Canada. And teachers notice when students arrive nourished. They're more present, more focused, and ready to learn.

At Natoaganeg School, traditional foods like moose and fish are regularly incorporated into meals.
“Traditional foods are healthier for our DNA even,” says Terri-Anne, Education Director. “We have high rates of diabetes, obesity, a lot of food-related illness — so it makes sense to incorporate more traditional foods.”

Community-led school meal programs are helping nourish students today while supporting healthier futures for generations to come. You can help support this work through our Best.Gift.Ever catalogue.

On National Indigenous Peoples Day, we honour the strength, leadership, cultures, and knowledge of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada. Read their words. Learn from their stories. Celebrate the strength, knowledge, and leadership that continue to nourish communities and future generations.

At Kinvia, we are honoured to work alongside Indigenous Peoples that are reclaiming food systems, revitalizing traditional knowledge, and creating opportunities for children, youth, and communities to learn, grow, and thrive.

Today and every day, we celebrate the resilience and leadership of Indigenous Peoples. We reaffirm our commitment to walking alongside Indigenous Peoples as they strengthen food sovereignty, cultural connection, and belonging to build healthier, more self-determined futures for generations to come.

Kinvia partners with the Thompson Boys and Girls Club to support food programs that help create pathways toward stability, independence, and opportunity for young people facing food insecurity.

Today, Thompson Boys and Girls Club is growing this work through a new urban food forest and land-based learning space where youth can plant traditional medicines, care for garden beds, learn sustainable harvesting practices, and connect with Elders and Knowledge-keepers through teachings rooted in the land🌱

🥕Stay tuned for updates as the Thompson Boys and Girls Club grows the first urban forest supported by Kinvia!

In Atikameg (Whitefish Lake First Nation), education is rooted directly in the land. 🌱

Alongside Knowledge-keepers and Elders, students learn how to hunt, fish, trap, and prepare food — gaining essential traditional skills and connecting deeply with their heritage.

"We cook everything we harvest," says Daryl, Knowledge-keeper and Land-Based Learning Lead. 🎣

💛 Your support helps keep land-based learning programs growing. Every gift is 2X matched until June 30: https://donate.kinvia.ca/single.php?source_form=indigenous-month-26-dig

At Beardy's & Okemasis' Cree Nation, the classroom extends far beyond four walls. Students plant seedlings at their desks, transplant them into the earth in the spring, and harvest potatoes in the fall. Right next door, a medicine wheel garden grows with herbs and medicines while Elders and community members share teachings connected to the land.
🧪Gardening becomes math, science, and writing lessons. It's hard to say where the curriculum ends and everyday life begins!

Today, you can help support land-based learning and growing initiatives for children and youth across Indigenous communities, plus your Best.Gift.Ever is 3X matched!
