Meet Logan from Camp Merrywood! 🛶❤️

At 24, Logan has been part of the Easter Seals Ontario camp community for more than 10 years, so long that he can’t quite remember exactly when it all began!

Some of his favourite ways to spend time at camp are sailing and canoeing, partly because, as Logan points out, the boats aren’t so easy to tip. 😄

That might also explain why one of his most memorable camp moments is falling into the lake while kayaking! After more than a decade of summers at Camp Merrywood, it’s moments like these that make for some pretty great stories.

Here’s to many more adventures and memories on the water, Logan! 🫶

Meet Bridgette from Camp Woodeden! 🧗‍♀️❤️

Bridgette is 16 and is back for her second summer at Easter Seals Ontario camp.

The pool is one of her favourite places to be to cool off splash around with her cabin leaders. She also loves campfires, where she gets to sing with friends and join in the fun of theme days and costumes. One favourite moment was seeing her cabin leader Alex dress up as Purple Moose for their campfire performance!

Bridgette is also always up for an adventure. From the giant swing and high ropes to making her way through the “blue lagoon” on the challenge course, some of her best camp memories come from trying something exciting and bonding with her cabin leaders.

At the end of each session, she looks forward to the slideshow and video so she can relive all the memories she’s made. And when asked to sum up Camp Woodeden, Bridgette keeps it simple: “It’s fun.”

We think that says it pretty perfectly. 🫶

Meet Siman from Camp Merrywood! ⛵❤️

Siman is 24 years old and has been attending Easter Seals Ontario camp since she was 17, making this summer her 7th summer with us!

Siman absolutely loves spending time on the water, and her favourite activity is sailing or canoeing. In fact, her favourite memory of camp is from her first year in 2019, when she went water rafting with her friend!

For Siman, camp offers a sense of freedom and independence, where barriers fade into the background, and she can simply enjoy fun experiences, spend time with her friends, and be herself.

We’re so glad Camp Merrywood has been a part of your summers all these years, Siman, and we hope there are many more great memories to come! 🫶😊

Meet Aran from Camp Merrywood!

Aran is 27 years old and is celebrating his seventh summer at Easter Seals Ontario camp as part of the Voyager program.

Sailing is his favourite activity, but for Aran, some of the best parts of camp come from having the chance to try new things, take on new experiences and enjoy everything camp has to offer.

His camp journey is far from over. Next year, Aran hopes to take part in the Leaders in Training (LIT) program, where he can continue building his leadership skills and take on a bigger role in the camp community. He even hopes to work at camp one day!

We love seeing campers dream about how they can grow, lead and stay connected to a place that means so much to them. We can’t wait to see what’s next for you, Aran!!

Say hello to Ashley from Camp Woodeden!

Ashley is 24 years old and has attended two Family Camp sessions at Woodeden, along with at least four sessions independently. This time, she's joining us for a Voyager session!

When asked what she loves most about camp, Ashley had an immediate answer: "Swimming!" She loves spending time in the pool, especially spraying her counsellors with water guns and dumping buckets of water over their heads!

Ashley is also a big fan of the ropes activities. She enjoys the high ropes course and rock wall, but the Giant Swing is a particular favourite because "it was just fun." This session, she's also enjoyed Life Skills, where her cabin worked together to create their very own "Town of Purple."

One of the best surprises this year was discovering that her friend Ashley, who she knows from high school, was also at camp. The two have loved having the chance to spend time together again.

When asked how she would describe Camp Woodeden to someone who has never been, Ashley said, "I don't want to spoil it" because they'd just have to come experience it themselves! She'd start by showing them the pool and reassuring them that the high ropes aren't scary: "its so good".

Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your time at Camp Woodeden, Ashley!

It's time to meet another familiar face at Camp Woodeden ... Keegan!

Keegan has been coming to Camp Woodeden since 2010 and has already spent four sessions with us this year.

Anyone who knows Keegan at camp knows how much he loves ceiling fans and light switches! His counsellors embrace the things that bring him joy, whether that's helping him find the fans around camp or celebrating his contribution when his cabin earns the Lights Off Lantern.

Keegan is also a big music fan. Music and drama is his favourite program, and he's performed "You Are My Sunshine" at the talent show twice this summer. He loves singing with his friends and counsellors at campfire and flagpole, and also enjoys camp outs and splashing around in the pool.

Most importantly, Keegan says he has lots of friends at Camp Woodeden who he misses throughout the year. When asked why he keeps coming back to camp, though, he had another very Keegan answer: "because there's a ceiling fan in cabin purple". 😊

And when asked if Camp Woodeden is fun and exciting? "Would Keegan say Camp Woodeden is fun and exciting? Yeah!"

Thanks for bringing so much personality and fun to Camp Woodeden, Keegan!

Meet Michaella from Camp Merrywood!

Michaella is 30 years old and is back at Camp Merrywood for her 18th year as part of our Voyager program.

Swimming is Michaella's favourite camp activity, but one of her favourite camp memories comes from a canoe ride with counsellor Raven last summer.

As Michaella puts it, "When I go in the canoe, I get a beanbag to lie on and I fall asleep within seconds, it's so relaxing!"

Thank you for sharing your camp story with us, Michaella!

Meet Megan from Camp Woodeden!

Megan is back at Camp Woodeden for her third year, and one thing is clear... she loves making the most of every minute!

When asked about her favourite camp activities, Megan found it almost impossible to choose. She says she's done "every single activity I can get my hands on" because there isn't anything at camp that she doesn't enjoy! Some of her favourites include the giant swing for "the thrill of it," water regatta, archery and spending time relaxing in the hammock or at the treehouse.

One activity Megan especially looks forward to each year is visiting with the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dogs. She says she loves them because "they don't judge you" and they're "continual love," just like her own dog, Teddy, who joins her at camp.

Megan's favourite camp memories include racing down the slip and slide at water regatta, playing games to earn Woodeden Bucks so she could soak her cabin counsellors, and seeing counsellors Rosa and Sophie dressed up in giant inflatable frog costumes during campfire and other activities.

When asked what makes Camp Woodeden so special, Megan described it as "fun" and "very inclusive - I love that." She says "you can do whatever you want here," and loves that families can enjoy all the activities at their own pace, surrounded by "really cheerful staff" who make everyone feel welcome.

Thank you, Megan, for sharing your Family Camp experience with us! We hope to see you and Teddy back at Camp Woodeden again soon.
