It's Mission and Service Monday!

Here's your story leading into the week of October 11th.

Arriving in Canada is only the beginning of the journey for many newcomers. While there is relief in finding safety, there’s also the daunting task of building a new life – finding housing and work, learning unfamiliar systems and languages, making new connections, and carrying the weight of experiences that don’t disappear at the border.

At St. Luke’s United Church, a strong sense of belonging for newcomers is being expressed through intentional welcome, shared meals, and community.

Congratulations to our great friend and colleague The Very Rev. Dr. Marion Pardy who will be recognized for her humanitarian work by the province of Newfoundland and Labrador!

Dr. Pardy will be one of eight recipients named to the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador at a ceremony on October 8th.

The Very Rev. Dr. Marion Pardy, 37th Moderator, is one of eight Canadians to be recognized for excellence and achievement benefitting the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. She is recognized for her humanitarian activities.

It’s Foundation Friday!

The Indigenous Health Centre of Tiohtià:ke in Montreal connects urban Indigenous youth with cultural and spiritual support through individual sessions with a Traditional Healer.

This creates a culturally safe space where youth can connect with their culture, seek guidance, and access other health and community supports. The experience also helped IHCT identify a growing need for youth-focused services, leading to the development of a youth addictions project.
