Children of Hope Uganda - York Mills CI

Children of Hope Uganda - York Mills CI COHU provides partial school fees and provides scholastic materials for vulnerable children in Northern Uganda.

The Lord’s Resistance Army, in Africa’s longest running conflict, since 1987 has been responsible for the displacement of 1.8 million people in northern Uganda, the killing of over 10,000 villagers and the abduction of over 20,000 children to be used as child soldiers or s*x slaves. Despite the signing of The Lord’s Resistance Army Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act passed by unanimous v

ote of the US Congress and the Senate in May, 2010, Joseph Kony is still at-large and the LRA continues to attack villages and abduct children in the Congo and the Central African Republic. Kony, the 1st man indicted by the International Criminal Court, stands charged with 33 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity. COHU is working to support the recovery of two war-affected communities in northern Uganda, Lira and Barlonyo. To assist the re-integration of formerly abducted children and children who lost parents to the LRA or AIDS, COHU supports their education, either by paying partial school fees at 31 Lira-area primary and secondary schools or by providing vocational training at the new Barlonyo vocational school.
