Mahone Bay, we’re on our way

The Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir is thrilled to be performing in beautiful Mahone Bay, Lunenburg County — a stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site — on Sunday, July 5 at 4:00pm. This will be the second stop on our four‑concert, 10‑day tour of the Maritimes, and we can’t wait to fill this remarkable community with the sound of Welsh harmony.

If you live in Nova Scotia, or have friends or family in the area, please share this post. We’d love to welcome them for what promises to be a wonderful afternoon of music, camaraderie, and Maritime hospitality.

We’re honoured to sing in such a breathtaking part of Canada — see you soon, Mahone Bay!

Say Hi and "Croeso" to our newest member, Ken Riley!
Ken is a real "basso profundo," and we're looking forward to having him boost those lower notes in the bass section.
He's a quick learner, so we're eager to make him part of the gang!🎼

🎶 Celebrating Our Friend and Chorister, Dr. Ray Freebury ❤️

Today we honour someone who has shaped the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir with heart, humour, and unwavering dedication.

Born and raised in Newport, South Wales, Ray carried the spirit of Welsh music and community with him throughout his life. After building a distinguished career as a psychiatrist, he brought that same compassion, insight, and steadiness to our choir family.

As a proud second tenor and a deeply committed member of our Board — serving for many years as Fundraising Director — Ray helped guide the choir through growth, challenges, and countless memorable seasons.

Ray has been bravely living with ALS for several years. When the choir regrouped after the pandemic, the progression of his illness meant he could no longer sing with us, but his connection to the TWMVC has never faded. Ray and his family have remained close, always part of our extended Welsh‑Canadian choir community.

Recently, a few of the lads travelled to Oakville to visit Ray and help him celebrate an extraordinary milestone — his 91st birthday. The afternoon was filled with stories, laughter, and that unmistakable camaraderie that Ray helped nurture over so many years.

Ray’s life — from Newport to Toronto, from medicine to music — is a testament to service, resilience, and the power of community.

Your choir brothers stand with you — in harmony, in friendship, and in gratitude. 🎂🎵❤️

What an evening we had yesterday at Agricola Finnish Lutheran Church — the very place where our music takes shape every Wednesday night. Performing in our rehearsal home felt truly special, and the audience made it unforgettable. Their enthusiasm filled the room, and the standing ovation at the end meant the world to the lads.

After the final chord, we were treated to wonderful post‑concert refreshments thanks to the generous and hard‑working team at Agricola. From there, we continued the celebration at our favourite spot, The Abbot Pub and Fare, long‑time supporters of the choir and a perfect place for a lively afterglow.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, and an extra‑special thanks to the amazing people at Agricola who organized and hosted this concert — our final performance before we head into our last three rehearsals and then off to Halifax, Nova Scotia, to begin our 10‑day Maritime tour.

The excitement is building, the voices are strong, and the journey ahead promises to be unforgettable. Diolch yn fawr to all who continue to support us.

As July approaches, the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir is putting the finishing touches on our upcoming tour of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. It’s been a labour of love — organizing concerts, coordinating travel, and building in free days so our choristers can truly experience the beauty of the Maritimes.

We’ve planned some incredible adventures along the way: kayaking on the coast, a local winery tour, a visit to Peggy’s Cove, and the unforgettable drive along the Cabot Trail. But what we’re most looking forward to is the camaraderie — the fun, the stories, the shared laughter that only happens when a choir travels together.

We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Robert Townsend and his team at Total Advantage Travel & Tours for their expertise, planning, and arranging all the details for flights, hotels, buses, and the fine details which make a tour successful, enjoyable, and worry-free.

And of course, we’re honoured to perform in venues rich with history and heart.

Here’s to a summer of music, friendship, and memories we’ll carry for years.

Our next concert is coming up on Saturday, May 30th, and it’s a special one — your last chance to see the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir before we head out on our 10‑day summer tour of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

We’re thrilled to be performing once again in a place that already feels like home. This venue is where we rehearse every week, shaping our sound, building our harmonies, and sharing plenty of laughter along the way. Bringing a full concert to this familiar space always feels meaningful for the lads.

It’s going to be a fabulous afternoon of music, energy, and choral four-part harmony.
Tickets are available on Eventbrite and at the door, but as always, we recommend grabbing them early.

We can’t wait to sing for you before we take our music to the Maritimes this summer.

🎶 SOME DAYS, THE CHOIR IS EXACTLY WHERE YOU NEED TO BE!
Not for perfection.
Not for performance.
But for connection.

In the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir, we show up for each other — in song, in laughter, in the quiet moments between rehearsals. We breathe together, we carry each other, and we create something bigger than any one voice.

Being part of a choir isn’t just about music.
It’s about belonging, well‑being, and the kind of friendship that lifts you up on the days you need it most.

If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to be part of a community like this — a place where you can grow, breathe deeply, and share something meaningful — we’d love to welcome you.

New voices are always welcome.
Experience isn’t required.
A warm heart and a willingness to sing are more than enough.

🎉 Celebrating Gwyn Roberts’ 95th Birthday! 🎶

Tomorrow, May 4th, we honour Gwyn Roberts, the beloved founding father of the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir.

Originally from Caernarfon, North Wales, Gwyn emigrated to Canada at the age of 60. Missing the fellowship and harmony of his choir back home — and with a gentle nudge from his wife Bonnie — he decided to form one of his own and in 1995, the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir was born.

Thirty‑one years later, the choir is going as strong as ever. Though Gwyn stepped down from singing on stage a little over a year ago, he continues to keep a watchful eye on us and attends the occasional concert. Every note we sing, every friendship we’ve made, and every memory we’ve shared traces back to his vision and courage.

Today, we surprised Gwyn at Magwyers Pub in Ajax, where he thought he was meeting a few friends for a quiet pint. Instead, he walked in to find the entire choir — and the wives — standing to welcome him with a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday!

Gwyn was overwhelmed and deeply moved to see everyone gathered in his honour. We laughed, sang, and celebrated the man who made it all possible.

Diolch yn fawr iawn Gwyn — for the music, the memories, and the brotherhood.

Here’s to 95 years of life well‑lived and harmony well‑shared.

This July, the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir sets off on a 10‑day journey through the Maritimes, and the excitement is building with every rehearsal.

We’re humbled to be performing for the warm and welcoming communities of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, with concerts in Halifax, Mahone Bay, Sydney (Cape Breton Island), and Charlottetown.

And beyond the music, our choristers are thrilled for the chance to explore rugged coastlines, colourful harbours, and some of the most beautiful landscapes Canada has to offer.

Take a look at this collection of photos of where we’ll be performing — we can’t wait to share the music, the landscapes, and the memories with you this summer.
