Catch up on our latest Be Well talk! This is the first part of a 3-part series called Navigating Persistent Pain After Breast Cancer.

In this Be Well Talk recording, we'll look at persistent pain after breast cancer and its causes. After being diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, Sandra Gabriel wasn’t sure she wanted support.

“I’ll be honest – I didn’t want to go [to Wellspring],” she says. “Going meant admitting I had cancer and needed help.”

But through Wellspring’s Cancer Exercise Program, Sandra found more than physical strength – she found connection, encouragement, and people who truly understood.

“We share experiences, we encourage each other, we check in,” she says. “Even if our situations are different, there’s this understanding you don’t have to explain.”

This May marks both Mental Health Awareness Month and National Caregiver Awareness Month – an important reminder that cancer impacts far more than the body.

For many people living with cancer, the emotional toll can include anxiety, fear of recurrence, isolation, uncertainty, and distress that continues long after treatment ends. At the same time, caregivers are often quietly carrying their own emotional, physical, and financial burdens while supporting someone they love.

At Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation, we see every day that cancer affects entire families – not just individuals. That’s why supportive care matters.

No one should have to navigate cancer alone. And no caregiver should feel invisible while doing it.
