Like so many women diagnosed with a gynecological cancer, after Gwen’s endometrial cancer diagnosis, she was left feeling alone and fearful of what was to come.

“I had a lot of support from my family during my treatment… but they couldn’t give me the unique emotional support I needed. They just didn’t have the experience with cancer that I was having,” shares Gwen.

At a cancer centre appointment, Gwen saw a poster for an ovarian cancer support group.

“I thought, ‘I don’t have ovarian cancer, but I have gynecological cancer, and I wanted someone to talk to.’ By joining this group that no one wants to join, I felt like I belonged.”

That connection changed everything.

This Uterine Cancer Awareness Month, read Gwen’s story and learn how our support programs are helping women feel seen, heard, and supported, no matter which gynecological cancer they are diagnosed with: https://ovariancanada.org/news-stories/stronger-together-how-cancer-communities-support-each-other

The Beau’s 5K for Ovarian Cancer Canada is a community driven event in Vankleek Hill, Ontario, and one that Sarah has been attending since the very beginning.

Sarah’s team includes three generations of family, participating together to honour the memory of her mom. “I often felt helpless when watching my mom fight ovarian cancer,” shares Sarah, “By participating and raising money in Beau’s 5K, we’re creating better outcomes for our daughters, sisters, and nieces.”

The Beau’s 5k for OCC is more than just a run for Sarah and her family; it is a movement: "Supporting events like this is about standing together as a community to raise awareness, drive research, and give hope to those affected by the disease."

June is Uterine Cancer Awareness Month, and our first June engaging Canadians diagnosed with endometrial cancer, the most common form of uterine cancer.

Until now, Canadians haven’t always had a trusted place to turn to for endometrial cancer support. We’re committed to filling that gap.

At Ovarian Cancer Canada, understanding the complex experiences women face when navigating their healthcare is what we do best. It’s what drives us to unite Canadians facing these diseases.

Endometrial and ovarian cancers are more connected than many people realize. The diseases are similar in many ways and the Canadians facing them often share similar experiences when navigating their healthcare.

This Uterine Cancer Awareness Month, uniting as one community is how we ensure no one faces gynecologic cancer alone.

We believe patients belong at the centre of cancer research.

We are investing $200,000 in two new patient-centred research projects through our partnership with the Cancer Research Society. Selected by a patient-led committee, these projects aim to improve care for Canadians at high risk or living with ovarian and endometrial cancer by making treatment more personalized, accessible, and informed by real lived experience.

From reducing unnecessary treatment and side effects, to improving hereditary cancer prevention and survivorship care, this research is focused on what matters most to patients: better outcomes, better support, and more freedom to live fully.
