Meet Dr. Matthew Emery, TMChoir's Composer in Residence for the 2026–27 season.
One of Canada's leading choral composers, Matthew's music has been performed in 37 countries across six continents—from the Great Wall of China to the White House and the Musikverein. Celebrated for music that is "profoundly beautiful and moving," his work continues to captivate audiences around the world.

This season, TMChoir is proud to premiere his newest commission, Agnus Dei: Truth Up Hold and Guide Me—a bold and deeply personal response to Mozart's unfinished Mass in C Minor. Reflecting on faith, truth, and the human search for meaning, the work brings a contemporary voice to one of the greatest masterpieces in the choral canon.

Our Artistic Director, Jean-Sebastien Vallee, is spending the next ten days leading some of Ontario's most talented young singers as conductor of the 2026 Ontario Youth Choir.

In this new interview with Ludwig Van Toronto, Jean-Sébastien reflects on the impact of the Ontario Youth Choir, the importance of nurturing the next generation of choral artists, and the remarkable experience that awaits this year's singers.

With a career spanning executive leadership, conducting, and arts administration, Elise brings extensive experience leading and strengthening choral organizations, including as Founder and Artistic & Executive Director of Myriad Ensemble and former Managing Director and Associate Conductor of Chorus Niagara.

Building on a period of remarkable artistic momentum, Elise will work in close partnership with Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Jean-Sébastien Vallée to advance the Choir's artistic vision and organizational leadership, supporting the continued growth of one of Canada's most distinguished choral organizations.

Our Pathways: Choral Creation program wrapped up its first year last week! This program was created to help address real barriers in the field by giving emerging composers access to mentorship, resources, and the opportunity to hear their work performed.

“If we want the choral art form to thrive, we have to invest not only in performance, but in creation,” says Artistic Director Jean-Sébastien Vallée. This year’s program was led by TMChoir Composer-in-Residence Stephanie Martin, who worked closely with participants throughout the process.

The program reflects TMChoir’s broader artistic vision, investing in the development of new music to help shape the future of the choral art form.
