This is a scientifically proven fact. Not knowing your HIV status does not mean you are HIV-negative.

Our new Arabic postcard shares a simple message: protect yourself, care for each other, and talk openly about s*xual health.

Condoms help reduce the risk of HIV and many other s*xually transmitted infections (STIs). Regular testing and honest conversations are part of caring for ourselves and each other.

If you first used crystal m**h/Tina within the past 2 years, OR you’ve thought about trying it for the first time — even out of curiosity — but haven’t used it, this survey may be for you.

💜 31 AUGUST | OVERDOSE PREVENTION DAY

For many people in our communities, s*xualized substance use , including chems*x/PNP , can be connected to s*x work, intimacy, connection and s*xual pleasure.

Today, we remember the lives lost to overdose and stand with everyone who has been affected.

Overdose prevention must include people who use substances in s*xual settings. Harm reduction should never be about shame or judgment — it should be about information, dignity, pleasure, choice and keeping each other safer.

💗 Harm reduction saves lives:
• Start low and go slow
• Test your supply when possible
• Avoid using alone
• Stay hydrated, eat and take breaks
• Know the signs of an overdose
• Keep naloxone nearby and know how to use it
• Check in on each other

People who use drugs deserve healthcare and support without stigma, including s*x workers, q***r and trans communities, newcomers, and people who use substances for s*xual pleasure.

When was the last time you got tested?

Making HIV and STI testing part of your routine is an important way to care for yourself, your partners, and your community. Regular testing can help with early diagnosis, timely treatment, and preventing onward transmission.

💜 Make testing part of your s*xual-health routine
✔️ Consider testing every 3 months if that schedule fits your s*xual activity and risk
✔️ Know your status
✔️ Talk openly about s*xual health
✔️ Support testing without judgment or stigma

Today, HIV Buddies joined a panel with second-year medical students at the **University of Toronto** to discuss the challenges newcomers, refugees, international students, and people without status may face in accessing HIV testing, treatment, and care.

We highlighted how **peer support and community organizations such as Casey House and the Blue Door Clinic** help bridge gaps in care.

It was especially meaningful to discuss how **future doctors can work alongside community organizations, listen to lived experience, build trust, and make healthcare more accessible and welcoming for newcomers living with HIV.**

Grateful to share this space with **Joan, Yasir, Sarah, and the students.**

HIV Undetectable = Untransmittable U=U: Living, Loving & Thriving Without Fear ❤️ in Urdu Translation

Living with HIV does not mean you are less healthy, less lovable, or a risk to others.

Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U). When a person living with HIV takes effective treatment and maintains an undetectable viral load, they do not s*xually transmit HIV.

With effective treatment, people living with HIV can live long, healthy, active lives—working, travelling, building relationships, having families, and enjoying intimacy just like anyone else.

For South Asian and Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) communities, we need to talk openly about this. Too often, HIV stigma comes from outdated information, fear, and silence. HIV treatment has changed. Our attitudes need to change too.

One of the most inspiring sessions at AIDS 2026 on Wednesday, 29 July, showcased outstanding research on chems*x (s*xualized substance use) from across the world.

It was encouraging to see important work and community experiences presented from Africa, Thailand, and Sri Lanka, highlighting that chems*x is not an issue confined to one region or one population. It is a global public health and community issue that deserves greater attention, research, and investment.

These presentations reinforced an important message: we cannot address HIV, STIs, mental health, or substance use in isolation. We need integrated, community-led, harm reduction approaches that are evidence-based, culturally responsive, and free from stigma.

I hope future International AIDS Conferences continue to expand the space for discussions on chems*x and s*xualized substance use, bringing together researchers, healthcare providers, policymakers, and—most importantly—people with lived and living experience from every region of the world.

Congratulations to all the presenters and researchers who are advancing this critical field. Your work is helping shape a more compassionate, informed, and effective global response.

Together, let’s continue the conversation, strengthen collaboration, and ensure that no community is left behind.
