Yesterday, I had the honour of representing HIV Buddies at the 42nd Annual AIDS Memorial at Barbara Hall Park, hosted by The 519.

This year's theme, 42 Years of Building Community: Legacy, Love, and Resistance,is a powerful reminder that our history is built on courage, compassion, and collective action.
The Toronto AIDS Memorial began in the late 1980s, when activist **Michael Lynch** and a group of community members created a temporary memorial in response to the fear, isolation, and stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS. Their vision led to the permanent AIDS Memorial in Barbara Hall Park, which opened in 1993. Today, it stands as a place of remembrance, healing, resilience, and hope. Every year, new names are engraved, ensuring that those we have lost are never forgotten. The memorial is now approaching the milestone of 3,000 names, each representing a life, a story, and a lasting legacy.

As a person living with HIV, I am incredibly proud to call Toronto, Canada my home a city where human rights, dignity, and inclusion are valued, and where people living with HIV have the opportunity to live openly and with respect.
At the same time, our work is far from finished.
Through my work with HIV Buddies, I continue to see the challenges faced by newcomers, particularly those from **South Asian, Middle Eastern, and North African (MENA)** communities. Many arrive with deep-rooted stigma, misinformation about HIV, and cultural barriers that make it difficult to seek support, testing, treatment, and care.
We honour those we have lost not only by remembering their names, but by continuing the fight for health equity, human rights, and a future free from HIV stigma.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this movement over the past 42 years. Together, we carry forward a legacy of love, resistance, and hope.

Today, on International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), we stand in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ communities around the world. 🌈

At HIVBuddies, we believe every person deserves to live with dignity, safety, respect, and love, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or faith.

This day is a reminder that discrimination, silence, and hate still impact too many lives. Together, we can create safer, more inclusive spaces for everyone, especially for those in South Asian, MENA, and Muslim communities who continue to face stigma and exclusion.

We see you.
We support you.
We stand with you. Always. ❀️

Let’s continue to speak up, educate, protect, and celebrate diversity, not just today, but every day.

STBBI (Sexually Transmitted Bloodborne Infections) testing is an important part of taking care of your health. πŸ’›

You don’t have to be β€œsleeping around” to catch an STI, and getting tested should never feel shameful or embarrassing. The truth is, regular testing gives peace of mind, builds confidence, and helps you stay informed about your body.

Testing isn’t about judgment.
It’s about self-care, responsibility, and protection. 🫢🏽

Normalize checking in on your sexual health just like any other part of your wellness routine.

🌈 Honored to Present at CAHR 2026 πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

I had the privilege of presenting my oral abstract at the 35th Canadian Conference on HIV/AIDS Research (CAHR) 2026 taking place April 23rd to 26th in Winnipeg as part of the Key Populations Session: Sexual and Gender Minorities.

πŸ—“ Saturday | πŸ•š 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
πŸ“ Room 1, RBC Convention Centre, Winnipeg

My presentation:
β€œMultilingual Community-Led HIV Prevention & U=U Outreach with South Asian and Middle Eastern/North African (MENA) Newcomers, including 2SLGBTQI+ and Q***r Muslim Communities.”

This work, led through HIV Buddies Canada, highlights the power of:
✨ Multilingual outreach (English, Punjabi, Arabic)
✨ Peer-led, culturally safe engagement
✨ U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable) awareness
✨ Centering underserved and often invisible communities including educational 9 videos and 4 postcards

We reached 500+ community members and 5,000+ online engagements, creating safe spaces to talk about HIV, reduce stigma, and improve access to prevention and care.

Grateful for the opportunity to share this work, connect with inspiring leaders, and continue advocating for equity, inclusion, and culturally grounded HIV responses.
