Some conversations in psycho-oncology are difficult. How do we make space for them?

Psycho-oncology professionals regularly encounter conversations that can be emotionally challenging for patients, families, clinicians, and researchers alike.

At IPOS 2026, Workshop #4 explores talking about tough topics in psycho-oncology through an ACTr workshop designed for clinicians and researchers.

The workshop offers an opportunity to take a closer look at how we approach difficult conversations and the perspectives that can help us navigate them with greater awareness and intention.

Satenik’s mission is to provide vital psychosocial support to cancer patients and their families at the Mikayelyan Institute of Surgery in Yerevan. Beyond direct patient care, she recognizes the immense pressure placed on healthcare workers and actively conducts psychoeducational sessions for oncology doctors and nurses to ensure a fully supported medical team.

For Satenik, the IPOS community has been integral to her continued development. She shares: "Becoming a member of IPOS contributes to my professional growth and helps me stay informed about the latest developments and changes in the field."

A milestone in global health policy: The Global Status Report on Cancer 2026 is here, and IPOS is incredibly proud to have been part of the input! 🌍

Published by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), this comprehensive 256-page report addresses the global burden of cancer, persistent disparities, and the profound human and economic consequences of the disease.

Because treating cancer means treating the whole person, we are honored to have contributed to a global framework that emphasizes integrated, people-centered approaches, survivorship, and the meaningful engagement of affected communities.

The report proposes three strategic shifts—better capabilities, better protections, and better value—along with seven actionable recommendations to guide governments and international stakeholders toward a more equitable future in cancer care.

IPOS is proud to announce that IPOS President, Chioma Asuzu, was honoured with Excellence in Education and Counselling Sectors Award.

The award was presented August 19, 2026, during the National Counselling Association of Nigeria's Golden Jubilee celebration at Akwa Ibom State. The celebration marks 50 years of impact in the counselling profession in Nigeria.

This honor recognises Prof. Asuzu’s tireless commitment to education, counselling, and transforming lives and shaping generations of counsellors especially in psychooncology through research, teaching, mentorship, and leadership.

The award is indeed a tribute to excellence, dedication, and service to humanity.

Meet Pamela Însurățelu , a Clinical Psychologist, CBT Psychotherapist, and certified Oncology Patient Navigator advancing global cancer care!

Pamela’s mission is to provide vital psychological assessment and intervention for cancer patients and their families as they navigate uncertainty and profound life changes in her private practice in Bucharest. She is also a dedicated volunteer with a rare hereditary cancer patient association and conducts crucial hospital research on patients’ cognitive functioning and adaptation to illness.

For Pamela, the IPOS community has been integral to her work. She shares: "IPOS connects me to a global community of professionals working in the same clinical context, something rarely available at a local level. It gives me access to international research and clinical practice in psycho-oncology, a field where Romanian-language resources are still limited."

Fear of cancer recurrence and fear of death can be deeply personal experiences, sometimes difficult to capture through words alone.

At IPOS 2026, Workshop #2 explores imagery and non-verbal interventions as approaches for working with these challenging experiences in psycho-oncology.

The workshop offers an opportunity to consider how imagery and other non-verbal approaches can open different ways of engaging with fears that may be difficult to articulate, while adding another perspective to the broader understanding of psychosocial care.
