Is Toronto ready for FIFA 2026?

IABC/Toronto and APEX PR brought together some industry leaders and insiders last evening for an exclusive sneak peek into what Torontonians should expect in the coming weeks.

Russell Baker from the City of Toronto, Kathy Motton from Destination Toronto, Nitish Bissonauth from Hyundai Canada, Gabrielle Totesau from Weber Shandwick Canada and Jennifer Stein from APEX PR shared how three years of planning have prepared the City and different brands for everything from welcoming 1,200 media outlets from around the world to citywide activations and extensive crisis planning.

From major brands to local shops, restaurants and businesses, Toronto is getting ready to have the residents and tourists experience the FIFA fever in fun and exciting ways (including FIFA-themed cocktails, of course!)

Last night, IABC/Toronto hosted professional communicators at Understory Café for our annual Pride Social. It was a splendid evening dedicated to connection, community and conversation as we rang in Pride season together.

Beyond the celebration, the evening created space for meaningful dialogue on how communicators can move beyond representation to build more inclusive, thoughtful and accountable communications, not just during Pride, but all year long.

Some of the important conversations of the night centered around:
• The importance of having 2SLGBTQ+ voices at the table from the start
• Honouring consent, lived experience and authenticity in storytelling
• Why connection and accountability are critical to building trust in the age of AI
• The need for courage in navigating difficult but necessary conversations, and so much more.

Attendees left with rich insights, new connections and renewed inspiration to continue championing inclusion in their workplaces and communities.

A huge thank you to our panelists Eli Carmona, Andrea Houston and Dane Griffiths; moderator Zaina Meher Kadiri; event manager Dean Lobo, VP (DEI and Accessibility); and our venue partner Understory. Thanks as well to everyone who joined us to celebrate, listen and share their perspectives.

Here’s to continuing this critical conversation and work long after Pride month ends.

[Image descriptions: Various moments from the Pride Social: attendees gathered in a warmly lit café seated around tables, sipping wine and enjoying snacks; panelists and the moderator seated on high stools during the discussion while attendees listen attentively; guests asking questions, smiling and engaging in conversation; and two large group photos of attendees - one formal and one featuring playful expressions.]
