Happy International Rural Women’s Day!

Today, we celebrate the incredible women who are the heart of rural communities. From farmers and entrepreneurs to caregivers, advocates, and community leaders, rural women play a vital role in building stronger, more connected communities.

At Women’s Rural Resource Centre, we recognize the strength, resilience, and contributions of rural women every day. We remain committed to creating spaces where women feel supported, empowered, and valued.

A heartfelt thank you to St. Vincent de Paul School for their generous donation of food and essential items, and to Lauren Bens for helping organize this wonderful contribution!

Contributions like these help us provide practical support and care to women and families accessing our services. Every donation is a reminder of the kindness and compassion within our community.

We're so grateful to the students, staff, and everyone who contributed to making this donation possible! đź’ś

Mental health matters every day, not just when someone reaches a breaking point. đź’ś

For many women, the weight of everyday life is carried quietly. The pressure to keep going, care for others, make ends meet, and hold everything together can leave little room to care for themselves.

But behind every strong woman is a person who deserves to be heard, supported, and cared for, too.

This World Mental Health Day, we're reminded that mental health is shaped not only by what we experience individually, but also by the circumstances we live in. Financial insecurity, isolation, violence, discrimination, and barriers to accessing support can all take a toll on our well-being.

At the Women's Rural Resource Centre, we believe that everyone deserves a safe space to be heard without judgment, to seek support without shame, and to know they don't have to navigate difficult moments alone.

You don't have to be in crisis to deserve care. And you don't have to carry everything on your own.

Today and every day, let's continue building communities where compassion is met with action, support is accessible, and no one feels invisible in their struggles.

As the day comes to a close, we pause to honour the lives, stories and memories of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2-Spirit People.

Sisters in Spirit is a day of remembrance, but it is also a call to keep listening, learning and demanding change.

We remember those who should still be here. We hold space for families, survivors and communities carrying grief that should never have been theirs to bear. And we recognize that remembrance must be matched with action, accountability and a continued commitment to ending the violence Indigenous women, girls and 2-Spirit people continue to face.

May the light we carry forward be one of truth, justice and care.

A big thank you to the 13B Strathroy Rockets for supporting WRRC! 🏒💛

The team recently held a BBQ fundraiser and generously collected food and cash donations on behalf of Women’s Rural Resource Centre.

We’re so grateful to see young athletes and their families giving back to their community and choosing to support women and families in our region. Thank you to the 13B Strathroy Rockets, their coaches, families and everyone who contributed!

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, their families and their communities.

Residential schools were part of a colonial system that separated Indigenous children from their families, communities, cultures and languages. The harm did not end when the schools closed. Its impacts continue across generations and remain present in the inequities Indigenous people experience today.

At WRRC, we believe remembrance must be accompanied by learning and action.

Reconciliation means listening to First Nations, Inuit and Métis voices. It means learning the truth about residential schools and colonialism, understanding the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, challenging systems that continue to cause harm, and supporting Indigenous-led work toward healing, justice and self-determination.

Today, we honour Survivors. We remember the children who never came home. And we recognize that reconciliation is not the work of one day.

Reconciliation requires action, today and every day. 🧡
