Recently I was out for my morning walk with my dogs and stumbled across a field full of dandelions. And it suddenly got me thinking- this field, it's kinda like our rescue.

The seniors we welcome into our care and how they can sometimes be seen by different people.

Looking at this field,

Sometimes people might see a whole field of weeds. Or of something near the end of it's lifespan. Sometimes people try to get rid of them. And the fluff can cause a little bit of extra mess. Sometimes people see dandelions as a lot of extra work.

Take a look again...

Children see that messy fluff as a field full of wishes and possibilities ❤️.

Bees see life ❤️.

And my own self- my momma self- there is no more beautiful memory held then that of a bright yellow bouquet of freshly picked dandelions sitting on the kitchen counter picked by your child just for you ❤️.

So when you see an older, in need of a groom and of some medical care pup in front of you, take a look again.

See possibilities.

See life.

See beautiful memories yet to be had.

Perspective. It's a wonderful thing ❤️.

It is with sadness that we share the recent passing of Brian Currie, a wonderful supporter of Happy's Place Senior Dog Rescue and proud Papa to Happy's Place alumna dog, Phoebe.
Brian and his family are a a big part of our rescue community, and we are deeply grateful that donations in his memory have been directed to Happy's Place.

One year prior to his passing, Brian's beloved bestie Phoebe crossed over the rainbow bridge. Perhaps they have been reunited together once again ❤️.

Did you know that one of the most frequent questions we get asked around here are do we do senior to senior adoptions.

The answer?

Yes! You betcha! Of course ❤️.

We simply adore our senior to senior adoptions.

Older dogs carry years of love, wisdom, loyalty, & quiet companionship.

Senior dogs are calmer, grateful, and deeply connected to their people. They just need a lap, and a soft place to belong. And in return, they give unconditional love, companionship, routine, laughter, and comfort during life’s quieter seasons.
It is never “too late” for a second chance.
This is the beauty of senior adopting senior.
Hearts become family, and seem to find each other exactly when they need it most.

The photo here? Just a few of the senior to senior adoptions- or should I say- and they lived happily ever afters we've had.

Have your own senior to senior adoption story to share? Drop a photo below or share your story too ❤️.

And Jackson got to find his happy 😊.

Remember our old man Jackson who'd been dumped in a park and barely able to move?

Remember how his back was super hunched?

Remember how he was frozen in fear in shelter having no clue what happened to him or where he was at all?

Remember how he has severe heart disease 💔.

Wellllllll...that's an official wrap for Jackson on the seeking an adopter search. Because he's been adopted by his foster family ❤️.

That's right! Jackson charmed his way into the hearts of not only his new mom and dad, but also into the hearts of his two adopted Happy's Place alumni sisters too.

Because what's better than one or 2 Happy's Place dogs? The answer is 3 of course!

All. The. Dogs!

Oh- and his health?

On meds for his heart and mobility, he's loving his walks again, his back is no longer hunched, and he is actually pretty darn speedy too.

He loves to eat, loves to snuggle, and is finally living his best old man life exactly how it's supposed to be. Pampered, cherished, and full of finding happy.

Happy adoption day to you Jackson. Retirement chapter, here you come ❤️.

As much as we love connecting with the community at festivals and outdoor events, our dogs’ well-being must always come first. 💛

Being an all senior rescue, since our foster dogs may have medical needs, or simply do not tolerate heat and busy environments well, with summer temperatures becoming increasingly difficult, we’ve made the decision not to have our adoptable dogs, nor ambassador dogs, attend OUTDOOR events this summer season (July and August).

This also helps ensure our amazing volunteers are not being asked to transport and care for senior dogs in extreme heat conditions. ☀️

We know everyone loves meeting the dogs in person, and we truly appreciate the support, understanding, and compassion from our community as we continue to prioritize safe, ethical rescue practices.

With that being said, we DO hope you continue to go out to support the MANY wonderful dog festivals across our country as people have worked really hard to provide you with awesome fun, and most fundraise to go to some really amazing causes, too!

You'll be able to find our volunteers at many of these awesome festivals this summer, just not our dogs.

Thank you for always putting the dogs first with us. 🐾

Ooooh can't you all just wait for the glow up ❤️.

Meet 7 year old Nova.

This sweet little lady arrived into our care recently in need of a second chance. Sadly, when her person passed away, Nova found herself in shelter at risk.

Shelters and rescues right continue to be packed to the brim and are doing their very best to accommodate the huge number of furry friends who need our support.

But sometimes, sadly, their is simply no more room.

This is where I'm grateful for the partnerships we have so that we can work together ❤️.

At our vet clinic, Nova proved to be a beautifully healthy lady. She's also incredibly sweet and well behaved too.

Her care is sponsored by:

Rob Unruh
Praveen Kumar in memory of Axel 🌈
Anonymous 🌈
Diane Gee
Anna Powell
Carolyn McGovern in memory of Queenie
Dawn Cain
Irving Ramirez
Sandra, Rich, Sameer, Lisa & Colleen in memory of Axel 🌈

Once groomed and ready to go- this gal's glow up will be seriously awesome.

And ps- on behalf of all doggos out there, go make a just in case plan for your pets today!

Welcome to Happy's Place Nova ❤️.

Joy is not painful, not sick and is on a gastro food as well as daily fiber to assist. Joy also takes a dose of inexpensive prednisone daily to support any inflammation. Joy does not p**p all night but does need out every 3-4 hours in the daytime to go. Some of her p**p is normal and others are loose.
