For Joan, getting to her breast cancer treatment means a 770 km round trip.

At 73, Joan lives in a small community in Bonavista Bay, where accessing the care she needs comes with more than the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. Every hospital visit means a long journey, and added costs for fuel and travel.

Through the Cancer Care Foundation’s Patient and Family Support Fund, Joan received help with travel expenses so she could continue her breast cancer treatment. The fund also helped provide a breast prosthesis, supporting her comfort, confidence and dignity.

These supports may seem simple, but when you’re facing cancer, they can make a world of difference. By easing some of the financial burden, the fund helped Joan focus on what matters most: her treatment and her well-being.

Joan’s story reminds us that cancer care extends beyond hospital walls. For patients and families across Newfoundland and Labrador, the journey can bring unexpected financial challenges.

A tattoo or piercing can be personal. At Elite tattoo studios, it also became a way to make a difference for people facing cancer in our province. 🖊

A huge thank you to Elite Tattoo Studios, Meagan, and the nine talented artists who generously donated their time on Sunday. Together, they turned a day of tattoos and piercings into an incredible $4,100 donation to the Cancer Care Foundation's Patient and Family Support Fund. Your generosity helps cancer patients and their families across Newfoundland and Labrador when they need it most.

Every name tells a story. Every colour represents a life touched by cancer.

As we look back at this year’s Metro Polka Dot Trot, we’re reminded of what makes this event so meaningful. The names written with love and care on t-shirts. The people being honoured, remembered, and carried in hope. The children, parents, grandparents, friends, and families who came together because cancer has touched their lives.

This year, a record 1,400+ trotters showed up in 24 different colours and together we raised more than $750,000 to support people facing cancer.

People from over 100 communities in our province, each representing a different story, came together for one shared purpose: to show people facing cancer that they are not alone.

At the Cancer Care Foundation, we support cancer patients and their families across Newfoundland and Labrador. The generosity behind the Polka Dot Trot helps us continue that work, supporting people when they need it most.

To everyone who walked, fundraised, volunteered, sponsored, or donated - thank you for showing up for the people behind every name.

In March, Marlene Short was diagnosed with breast cancer. While her diagnosis marked the beginning of her own cancer journey, she was no stranger to cancer’s impact on the people she loves. Her mother and three of her siblings are all cancer survivors, making this milestone especially meaningful for Marlene and her family. 🩷

Surrounded by her sister-in-law, father-in-law, cousins, and friends, Marlene celebrated the completion of her radiation therapy treatment by ringing the Bell of Hope at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre.🔔 And the celebration didn’t stop there! Ten more family members joined the special moment virtually through FaceTime, ensuring they could share in the joy, no matter the distance.

Marlene’s joy and positivity filled the room, and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate alongside her as she reaches this important milestone in her cancer care journey.

A heartfelt thank you to Newfoundland Power for supporting Bells of Hope across our province and helping make these moments of celebration possible for patients and their loved ones.

Earlier this week, we welcomed partners, supporters, healthcare professionals, board members, and friends to the Cancer Care Foundation's Annual General Meeting.

The AGM gave us an opportunity to reflect on another year of impact made possible through the generosity of donors and the dedication of communities across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Together, we are helping fund cancer patient programs, vital treatment equipment, and continuing professional education initiatives that directly benefit cancer patients and families throughout our province.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it's an important reminder to take care of your breast health.🩷 Breast cancer screening can help find cancer early, often before there are any signs or symptoms. When breast cancer is found at an earlier stage, treatment may be more effective and outcomes may improve.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, the Breast Screening Program offers screening mammograms (breast X-rays) for women at locations in St. John's, Gander, Corner Brook, Labrador City, and Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The program also provides breast health education and support to help guide clients through any follow-up that may be needed. If you're between the ages of 40 and 74, you can refer yourself for screening.

Taking time for screening is one small step that can make a big difference. It could give you answers, peace of mind, or an opportunity to catch something early. There is something incredibly powerful about being in a room with people who simply understand. ❤️

On the weekend of October 2nd, 135 women from 36 communities across Newfoundland and Labrador came together for the 2026 NL Cancer Conference for Women, presented by Newfoundland Power Inc. and Power of Life.

They came with different stories, different experiences and different journeys. Over three unforgettable days, they shared those stories, learned from one another, formed new friendships, found moments of reflection and, perhaps most importantly, laughed together.

Cancer may have been what brought these women together, but it was connection, courage, compassion and community that defined the weekend.

To the 135 incredible women who trusted us with their stories and their weekend, thank you. Thank you for the conversations, the kindness, the vulnerability and the laughter.

Your stories are different. Your journeys are your own. But none of you have to walk them alone. ❤️
