Rainbow Riders - Therapeutic Riding Newfoundland and Labrador Inc. Through therapeutic riding, horses help physically and mentally challenged children, youth and adults achieve things that may seem impossible.

For over 30 years, Rainbow Riders has been delivering therapeutic horseback riding and equine-assisted activities for individuals with diverse physical, cognitive, and emotional needs. They help an autistic child make connections and improve communication skills. They lend a six-year-old child, confined since birth to a wheelchair, his legs to run through a field. Relying solely on donations and f

undraising, Rainbow Riders operates from a full-time facility that can house 16 horses and ponies and provides an indoor riding arena to support year-round operation. This work is only possible with the assistance of generous donations from members of the provincial community. Any contribution that you make will make a difference and will help us continue to provide our valuable program to children of our province who live with disabilities.

Rainbow Riders’ Fourth Annual EC Bronze Level Dressage Competition ✔️

When we first started hosting this competition in 2022, we never imagined it would grow to what it has become, both for the NL equestrian community and for our riders!

Thank you to our judge, Joan Macartney. It is such privilege to obtain feedback from a FEI 4-Star Dressage judge, as well as a judge with such a kind heart who has so much love for Newfoundland. We are so grateful for Joan’s support.

Thank you to our steward, Sheila Anstey! Shiela is there to steward for us whenever we need her, without fail. To have someone as intelligent, patient, and willing as Sheila is so wonderful.

Thank you to our scribes, Maria Singleton & Jess Pallard! Thanks to these two amazing people, everyone got their feedback promptly and with ease. To volunteer your entire day to being in a hut is not appealing to most, but we assure are grateful!

Thank you to our RR volunteers. It makes us so happy to see our volunteers be a part of such a special event. We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without you all. The canteen, barbecuing, building chairs, scooping p**p, manning the gate, early morning barn chores, calling dressage tests, braiding manes, first-aiding, and so much more! The list of jobs goes on and on, but all of these jobs were completed thanks to our volunteers!

Thank you to our barn staff who kept on top of the regular chores on top of the added chaos of show days!

Thank you to our show committee! All willingness to help out when needed is much appreciated. We couldn’t do this without the incredible team we have.

Thank you to our RR riders who competed this weekend. For some, this was their first time ever competing in this event. While the show environment can be overwhelming and stressful, we are so proud of all of them for how they carried themselves. For other RR riders, they have done this competition every single year. It is amazing to think about the riders who entered the ring 4 years ago and who they are today. So much growth in their perspectives of competitive horseback riding and overall skill. We are so proud of everyone on team RR! Congratulations!

Thank you to all competitors from this weekend. Everyone riding demonstrated such inspiring sportsmanship and horsemanship. The love every rider has for their horse did not go unnoticed. We saw so many teams leave the ring smiling no matter what, simply because of the love between horse and rider. We are so grateful for everyone who shows with us. It is such a pleasure to watch you all ride. Congratulations!

And of course, thank you to the horses. We owe all of this to them. The horses this weekend showed bravery, pride, and skill. They most importantly, are all so loved. Each of these horses have their own strengths and their own personalities. We are so lucky to work with such wonderful animals!

Again, thank you so much everyone! Thank you to everyone mentioned above and more. Congratulations all. We hope to see you all in October for the Fall Finale!

Last night, our long-term therapy horse Bob was laid to rest.

Bob walked through the doors of our little red barn 14 years ago. So much has changed since then, but something always remained the same, the presence of Bob.

Bob has given so much of himself to hundreds of people over the years. He was the first horse so many participants met, immediately turning to his door to investigate for a treat upon introduction. In his younger years, he was a therapeutic riding pro and dressage star. He carried riders of all levels around the arena. From hippotherapy to rider levels to nationally sanctioned para-dressage competitions, Bob did it all. He was the first horse so many of our riders over the years ever sat on, such a steady mount who let so many learn from the comfort of his back. When his riding career concluded, his life as a Horse Discovery and Open Trails horse began. Bob has been such a dependable horse in these programs. Every day, he was steady and patient for his participants. He took anything that came his way with grace. From being covered in sticky notes to identify parts of the horse to being transformed into a glittery unicorn, Bob saw it all. It is a good thing that Bob loved to be loved so much, because he loved rolling around in mud just as much as he loved attention!

Our hearts go out to Bob’s owner, Mel. Mel was the definition of committed when it came to Bob. If he needed anything, she made sure he got it, including a stylish wardrobe! He received the absolute best care from her. Everything Mel did for Bob was fueled by unconditional love for him. Their partnership was like none other. Bob let his silly side shine when in the company of his person. He knew how to keep her on her toes but also be that same steady presence. We are eternally grateful for everything Bob gave to Rainbow Riders throughout his life.

Bob was a reliable and calm presence for anyone who needed him. He helped people feel seen and loved. Bob knew his job and I think that he took pride in it. If you would like to talk or share memories of Bob, we welcome you to share them.

Rest in peace Bob. You will be so incredibly missed. We love you. ❤️
