🎓 RentEd Just Got Even Better! 🎲🏠

Last week, we hosted one of our newly updated RentEd sessions, and participants got to experience some exciting changes, including more fun, hands-on, and interactive learning activities!

RentEd is designed to help renters build the knowledge and confidence needed to find, obtain, and maintain successful housing. Topics include tenant rights and responsibilities, budgeting, maintaining a rental home, and understanding leases. Rental education programs have been shown to help tenants develop stronger rental skills, improve housing stability, and build positive landlord-tenant relationships.

Whether you're renting for the first time, looking to strengthen your rental knowledge, or wanting to better understand your rights and responsibilities, RentEd can help. Participants who complete the program also receive a certificate that can be included with housing applications.

Upcoming sessions are now open for registration!

🏠 THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT AFFORDABLE HOUSING

The housing crisis in Saskatoon is not theoretical. It arrives at Camponi’s doors every day.

📊 In September alone, Camponi received 220 housing inquiries, including 74 new housing applications. Behind every one of those numbers is a person, a family, a child, an Elder, or a community member looking for something every person deserves: a safe, affordable place to call home. 🏡

🧡 Indigenous people experience housing insecurity and homelessness particularly acutely. That is why we need more investment in Indigenous-led affordable housing, not less.

⚠️ And we must be careful not to weaponize the amount of money being invested in Indigenous housing and then simply shout “accountability” as though the size of the investment itself is evidence of wrongdoing.

✅ Accountability matters.
✅ Transparency matters.
✅ Good governance matters.

Those standards should apply fairly and consistently to everyone.
But accountability must never become coded language used to resurrect old stereotypes about Indigenous people or to undermine Indigenous organizations because significant investments are finally reaching the communities that need them.

❓The real question should be: What is the need, and are we responding to it?

🏘️ At Camponi, the work does not end when someone receives the keys to a home.

📚 Through Rent Ed, we work with tenants to strengthen housing knowledge and stability.

🤝 Through the Winter Sage Program, we recognize another fundamental truth: people need connection, community, and supports alongside housing.

💡 This is why programming matters.
🏠 This is why Indigenous-led housing matters.❤️ And this is why we must stop reducing affordable housing to dollars, units, and statistics.
👥 People are not numbers.

A home can provide the foundation from which someone rebuilds stability, strengthens a family, reconnects with community, and imagines a different future. 🌱

So when hundreds of people are reaching out for housing, our response cannot be suspicion about how much money affordable housing costs.

Our response must be:
🏗️ How do we build more?
🏠 How do we house more people?
🤝 How do we help people stay housed?
💰 And how do we properly fund the organizations doing that work?

🚪 The need is standing at our door.
✅ Invest in affordable housing.
✅ Invest in Indigenous-led solutions.
✅ Invest in programs like Rent Ed and Winter Sage.
✅ Invest in stability.
✅ Invest in people.

Because if we are truly serious about addressing homelessness, housing must come first. 🏡

💭 It’s rich to claim expertise on homelessness while criticizing the millions invested in affordable housing without even understanding where those dollars go, what they build, or the people they support.

⚔️ You’re not a warrior if you don’t know the battle.

September Was Busy... and October Is Already Shaping Up to Be Another Great Month! 🍂✨

As we move through October, we're taking a moment to look back on a busy and meaningful September at Camponi Housing Corp.. From cultural programming and staff development to celebrating community members and supporting tenants, there was no shortage of activity!

📿 Michif Creations Beading & Ribbon Skirt Classes brought community members together to learn, create, and celebrate culture.

💐 We said farewell to one of our amazing Building Ambassadors, wishing her all the best as she embarks on a new chapter and exciting new adventures.

🔨 September 3 marked the final day for our three summer students in the Maintenance Department. We are grateful for their hard work, dedication, and contributions throughout the summer.

🧠 Our team came together for a full day of Trauma-Informed Training, strengthening our knowledge and commitment to creating safe, supportive, and respectful spaces for tenants and one another.

🌟 We proudly hosted our Camponi Housing Elder Appreciation Event, recognizing and celebrating the Elders who contribute so much wisdom, strength, and guidance to our community.

🤝 Throughout the month, our weekly Men's and Women's Support Groups continued to provide opportunities for connection, encouragement, and community support.

And that's just the beginning! September was filled with many other activities, meetings, partnerships, and moments that helped strengthen our community.

As busy as September was, October is already shaping up to be another exciting month, and we look forward to sharing more updates with you soon.

❤️ Thank you to our tenants, Elders, staff, volunteers, and community partners for being part of all that we do.

🍂🦃 Giving Thanks Together 🦃🍂

On Friday afternoon, the Camponi Housing team came together to celebrate Thanksgiving with a staff potluck filled with delicious food, great conversation, and gratitude.

As we shared a meal featuring turkey, chicken, all the favourite sides, and of course pumpkin pie, staff took turns reflecting on what they're most thankful for. The responses were heartfelt and inspiring, with many expressing gratitude for their families, children, good health, supportive colleagues, and the opportunity to make a difference through their work.

Moments like these remind us of the importance of connection, community, and taking time to appreciate the people and blessings in our lives.

From all of us at Camponi Housing Corporation, we wish everyone a safe, happy, and meaningful Thanksgiving weekend. 🍁Please note that Camponi Housing Corporation will be closed on Monday, October 12. Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday.
