SMWG
Presents a

Wild Mushroom Foray

Hello everyone,

This mushroom picking foray will focus on mushroom identification in Saskatchewan. Join experts on a group hike and learn to identify wild edible mushrooms safely.

Everyone is welcome - from first-timers to fungi fanatics.

We’ll email ticket holders with full foray details and the exact location before the event.

Forays may be postponed if the scouting team does not find fungi, or if weather is poor.

Date: 2026 - Saturday, June 27th

Location: Near Redberry Lake (On Private Land)

Time: 11am to 3pm

Cost:

• $25 Adults (with NPSS membership)

• $70 Family Pass (with NPSS membership)

• $15 Students and Seniors (with NPSS membership)

• Free - Kids under 12 (accompanied by an adult)

• $5 Supported Access Tickets - Available for those who need a little help covering the cost—no questions asked.

By purchasing a ticket, you’re helping us advance the DNA-verified identification of mushroom species in Saskatchewan.

As the picking season kicks off, let’s discuss some things about one of the superstars and some of their cousins of the mushroom world!

These mushrooms all love similar conditions, and can be found where the earth has been disturbed, often a year or so after a forest fire. They also are early season mushrooms in SK, appearing in the spring.

Netsuke (pronounced net-skeh) are tiny, hand-carved sculptures from Japan, traditionally used as toggles to secure items like pouches or containers to a kimono sash. Dating back to the 17th century, they were both practical and artistic—often shaped like animals, people, or even mushrooms, symbolizing good fortune and everyday life.

A little piece of function, folklore, and fungi all in one.
